Kellin's P.O.V:
"Kellin? Are you even listening?", my mothers voice snapped me out of a mindless train of thought.
"What?", I asked, slightly confused. She sighed and face palmed.
"Kellin, I told you to get ready. We're heading over to the Fuentes's house for a barbeque", she said.
"Can't I just stay home?", I whined. She shook her head. "Nope. Hurry up Kellin. You have thirty minutes".
I groaned and stomped up the stairs.
I hated going to the Fuentes's house. Well- let me rephrase that. I hate Vic.
I washed my face and threw on a random V-neck. I didn't bother changing out of my jeans.
"Kellin! Have you seen my keys?", I heard my mom call from downstairs.
"No!", I replied, slipping on some shoes.
I grabbed my phone and plopped down on my bed.
I unlocked it and went straight to playing some random game.
"Kellin! Let's Go!", I heard my mother yell a few minutes after. I sighed and got up, slipping my phone into my back pocket as I walked downstairs.
I saw my mom waiting for me, holding her keys.
"Why do you need keys, they live across the street?", I grumbled.
"Vivian asked me to bring charcoal", she said, opening the door.
"You'd think they'd be smart enough to bring charcoal to a barbeque", I muttered. My mother smacked me in the back of the head."Oww", I whined, rubbing the area. She rolled her eyes and went towards the car.
"Be nice, Kell", she said, getting in. I tried to open my door but it was locked. I knocked on the window, pointing to the lock as my mom looked at me.
She rolled down the window.
"Nope. Go across the street and tell Vivian I'll be there", she said. I opened my mouth to protest but she backed away.
I had to step back to avoid getting run over. I sighed to myself as she sped away.
I thought about just disobeying her and heading back into my house; it was tempting. But I knew my Mom would kill me if I did.
So reluctantly, I trudged across the street and knocked on the door. Mr. Fuentes opened it with a big grin.
I plastered on a fake smile and politely shook his hand.
"Ahh Kellin. How nice to see you again", he said, grinning. I gave him a small smile and nodded.
"Where's your mother?", he asked, confused. "She went to get the charcoal. She said she'd be here in a sec", I informed him.
He nodded and motioned for me to go in. I obeyed and followed him throughout the house and outside into their backyard.
I looked around and saw some other neighbors and what seemed like their relatives.
"Vic!", Mr. Fuentes called. I internally groaned as he called him over.
Vic saw me and discreetly rolled his eyes, but obeyed his father and came towards us.
"Yeah, Dad?", he asked. His Dad smiled and gave me a nudge towards Vic.
"Hang out with Kellin. Make him comfortable", he said and then walked off towards his wife.
