Vic and I woke up and did the usual routine; putting out the fire, peeing behind a tree and then we finished the last of my junk food."If we don't find the way today, we're screwed", I said, feeling a unsettling pit in my stomach.
"We'll be okay. I promise", Vic said, grabbing my hand. I looked over at him and somehow knew we'd be okay.
We ended up walking again, maneuvering through the forest and trying not to trip on roots and plants.
"Let's hope we don't run into any rabid animals", I muttered as we walked.
We kept walking for a while, maybe two hours. It was around one in the afternoon when we decided to take a small break.
"Should we save this?", I asked, reffering to the last bit of water. Vic shook his head.
"We're gonna need it. Drink some", he said. I nodded and drank half of it, then handed the rest to him.
He gratefully took it and gulped it down.
I was really starting to miss home.
I needed a shower. I wanted some food, not just candy I brought as a snack. And most of all, I wanted my bed.
I sighed as we began walking again. Vic and I talked here and there but we were mostly focused on our surroundings, keeping our eyes peeled for anything.
I heard a sound and stopped. Vic was still holding my hand so he stopped too, turning around, with a concerned look on his face.
"Kellin?", he asked.
"Shh! I heard something", I whispered.
There it was again. It sounded like faint yelling.
"Vic?! Did you hear that?", I asked, getting exited.
"Yeah!", he grinned.
"Hello?!!", he shouted.
We waited in silence and heard the voice again. I noticed flashing red and blue lights behind trees about a block away from us.
"Vic! I think that's the cops!", I grinned. I pulled him closer to me and kissed him hard.
He may be the reason we were lost in this mess in the first place. But he's also the reason I let my walls down.
I grabbed his hand and we ran towards the lights. Honestly, if we weren't so exited, I don't think we'd even have half the energy to even walk there.
But here we were, battered and bruised. Dirty and bloody. Ratty and clothes torn. Holding hands as we ran towards our hope of a way to get home.
I was out if breath and my lungs hurt but I kept running. The closer we got to the lights, the louder the voices became.
"Vic?! Kellin?!", a male voice yelled in the distance.
"Hello?! We're here!", Vic yelled, still running.
"Vic! We made it!", I grinned. We pushed past the trees and took in the scene before us.Two cop cars, an ambulance, news reporters and what looked like a whole search team were here.
"It's them!", a lady holding a microphone in front of a camera said. Immediately, reporters and journalists shoved their mics in our faces.
"Kellin Quinn and Vic Fuentes are finally found after being lost for days in this very forest. How did you survive?", one of them asked.
It was so hard to hear them. They were all speaking at once.
"What?", Vic asked, looking confused.
"Do you boys have anything to say about your experience in the wilderness?", one asked.
They all went silent, pointing their cameras at us, waiting for a response.
Vic and I immediately smirked and pointed at each other.
"It was his fault".
