Things had gotten stressful; Maggie and Glenn had been taken by someone called the Governor. The woman known as Michonne, who was new to the group, had mentioned the name Merle.
I looked to Daryl, whose body tensed up when the name rolled off we tongue. "You're brother?" Daryl shrugged, and Michonne nodded,
"He mentioned a brother, so most likely."I reached out to touch his hand, and he quickly took it in his. "I'm goin' with Rick and the rest." he stated once she left the room, and I nodded slowly. "I'll come with you-" He interrupted me, "No."
I looked up at him, eyes filled with hurt. "But, Daryl," He kissed me quickly. "I already have them to worry bout. I ain't throwin' ye into that mix."
I sighed softly, but agreed nonetheless, and he pulled me to him. Something he only seemed to do when we were alone. "Be careful, or I'll kill you myself." I teased to mask the worry that filled my mind.
He pulled away, flashing me a quick smirk. "Always am." But then he became serious, pressing his forehead against mine, "Same goes fer ye."
I smiled, kissing him one last time before pushing him in the direction of the others. He smirked slinging his crossbow over his shoulder as we made our way out of the prison, meeting up with Rick and the rest of the group.
Rick looked up, eyeing me before turning his attention to Daryl. "Ready?" Daryl shook his head yes and moved forward, and I watched as they disappeared passed the gates.
A few days had passed, and everyone was beginning to worry, even Carol who constantly reminded us that they always came back.
It wasn't until I heard the relieved cries of Hershel, Carl, and Carol that I believed her. I ran out, running into Rick's open arms as he hugged me, and then moving to Glenn and Maggie, who looked beaten and defeated. I looked around the group, furrowing my brow. They saw my expression, and Rick's smile faded when I turned to him. "Where's Daryl?"
He sighed rubbing his forehead, "We made a run for it at first, but they took him. They had him and Merle fighting to the death surrounded by walkers. We managed to pull them out, but Merle didn't want to come back," he explained slowly, and I nodded my head. "And? Daryl?" Rick looked at me, "He stayed with Merle."
Carol stepped in as I tried to process everything that was said, "He left us?" Rick nodded and she covered her mouth to keep from crying, reaching over to hold my hand.
"No...no, I- I can't believe that." I shook my head, holding back the tears. Rick tried to say something but I tuned him out, turning around to go back inside. Daryl was alive...Daryl had left me.
