After only getting about an hour of sleep I got up early in search of the showers, new white shirt and black pants and boots in hand. Luckily for me I spotted Speck walking towards the cafeteria entrance, but he was creeping around the bend in the corridor as if he were hiding from someone on the other side.
"Whatcha doing there Speck?" I asked, as I creeped up real close to scare him.
"Ghaaa!" Bart exclaimed, as he fell to the ground and had dust fly up as he did.
"Why!?" he said from the ground, raising his hands in attitude.
"Well you were stalking something like a ninja, so I had to." I paused, then added,
"What were you doing anyays?" looking around the bend I saw Bart's sister Grace against the wall with a tall red headed kid leaning over her. I could make out soft voices and Grace's giggles, then figured out what was going on. I looked back at Speck to see him looking up at me with wide eyes.
"I see, you're just here to protect her huh?" I asked, not hoping for much of a reply, and
was greeted with a concentrated stare of seriousness.
"You think I could take him?" He said, his small stature and little voice making quite the scene. I put my hand over my mouth and tried not to laugh.
"Hey so listen, I need to find the showers cause my first class starts in an hour, can you show me where they're at?" I asked with the most winning smile I could muster. He gave me a look that said he didn't really want to.
"I mean I would but..." He looked back around the corner, and I could tell I wasn't getting anywhere by asking. So I walked over and picked him up and threw him over my shoulder. (He was deceptively heavy for a little guy) and he made grunts of struggling as I carried him down the corridor.
"Hey! Put me down" He said, kicking and hitting my back. I was laughing pretty hard when we ran straight into the last person I wanted to see first thing in the morning.
Mr. Harken had his hands behind his back, and was staring me down with his narrowed dark eyes. I slowly put down speck, who also had become silent.
"I'm looking forward to our first class together Mr. Legreve" was all Harken said, and continued down the corridor.
"well that was creepy" speck said quietly.
"Did you get your schedule yet? What classes?" He said in succession.
"oh yeah I don't have it with me but I think first I got beginners health, then beginners science, beginners control, and advanced combat I think." I then just realized how the pattern had broken by the last class.
"Hey we almost have every class together!" Speck said excitedly.
"We better get you into that shower though. Because you stink." I could see the spark of mischief in his eyes as he started back down the hall way. I followed him around a maze of turns until we finally made it to a set of double doors that were open. It had a girls section to the left, and a guys section to the right.
"Is this the only shower room in the facility?" I asked.
"No, you just wandered into the earth section and missed the one closest to air." He said casually.
"wait how did you know I was in air?" This seemed like a pretty fair question on my part but Speck made a look like I was stupid.
"Because you haven't shown any manipulative abilities yet, and Air has a ton of spare rooms because it has the least amount of students. So all new kids go to Air until they have shown what they can do" when he said those last words he gave a little dance move that made me chuckle.
