Chapter 1: Lost (Diana's P.O.V)

When I opened my eyes I didn’t know where I was, but more importantly who I was. All around me I could see tall trees with their leaves slowly falling down around me. The forest was thick with trees. I couldn’t even see through their branches. It looked like it was around sunrise. I couldn’t really tell. One thing that I did know was I was lost and I didn’t know where I was going to go.

But out from the midst of all the swirling leaves I saw a large, looming, dark figure slowly advancing toward me. The figure kept coming toward me with its deliberate slow even steps. It didn't look human at all. Then, without thinking I just closed my eyes and waited hoping to be spared of a horrible fate. After a quick moment I could feel the large figures hot breath on my face.

I slowly opened my eyes and there right in front of me was a horse. It was beautiful Arabian horse and was almost pure black with the exception of a small patch of white on its forehead. Its breath was fast, as though it had been running previously. I hesitantly reached up toward the horse and gently stroked its head. For some reason it seemed familiar... Then it just struck me . Maybe just maybe this horse was mine. How I knew I didn’t know it was in there like all other recollections of anything before my waking up.

“Moonlight.” I whispered. Where the name came from I couldn’t figure out, but it just felt right. But at the sound of it’s name her ears pricked up. I slowly mounted Moonlight and just sat there with her looking in every direction hoping to know which way I should go. But that just didn’t seem to come as easy like the fact that Moonlight was my horse or even her name.

Finally I just decided on a probably extremely idiotic idea that would make me end up in a place for lunatics before I looked at her. I leaned near her ear and said as quietly as I could “Take us home”. Hoping no one was around to see me speak to her. But with those words she started toward the East in a fast paced gallop. The scenery that I saw as we rode by changed quickly from a densely thick forest to small village to a large kingdom.

Finally, Moonlight slowed down to a trot when we reached a large market near the palace. Looking up at the banners that fluttered in the wind in the four towers. I took off the hood from my cloak to be able to see better I could see everyone and of course they could see me. Everyone suddenly began to talk behind their hands and whisper amongst themselves as they stared at me before I heard someone shout eagerly “Diana!”

Looking around I couldn’t see who had shouted the name but before I had realized it a man probably around my age showed up beside Moonlight. He rode on his own Cleveland bay chestnut mare smiling at me like I was an old friend. I probably did know him but at the moment I was just confused at who this stranger might be. Maybe he was a relative, friend, or acquaintance.

“Diana, where have you been? I was looking all over for you this morning. You missed breakfast.” I looked at him completely bewildered. Was he speaking to me? But then again he didn’t seem to be speaking with anyone else.

Finally I just asked him “Um.... Who are you?” He looked at me a bit surprised before his smile slowly faded into a frown of concern. He was maybe thinking a million things to tell me or ask me but at the moment he only said one thing “Diana don’t you remember me? I’m Colin.”
