Chapter 8: Thor
I made sure Rose was behind me and safe.
“Come. You have nothing to fear at the present.” The man stated. I peered into the room.
The wall was lined with candles that made a large, orange glow. It was an eerie sight.
But what was more frightening was the silhouette at the front. Hooded and cloaked in black, the figure gestured with his arms and the candles turned blue.
The figure turned. “The gods have told me I would meet your acquaintance. They said you were here on a desperate mission for your friend. Oh, the fate the gods have for her…”
My grip tightened on the knife. “Who are you?” I angrily asked through gritted teeth.
He laughed and pulled of his hood.
He looked to be about thirty-his face was beaded with sweat. His lightning grey eyes glared with an all-knowing look. What was strange was the dark grey tattoo on his left temple. It was of a Scandinavian hammer-pagan, I thought. I had believed paganism was gone and out of France- well, I was wrong. This man stood as evidence before me.
“I am Thor Hexer, messenger of Odin, great warrior of Asgard.”
BLASPHEMY! I thought of screaming. BLASPHEMY!
Instead, I replied, “Why do you hurt people to please others.”
“Pleasing my clients is my duty.” he said curtly.
I shot back, “From who-”
“Odin!” screamed Thor.
I laughed. “Or is it Lionel?”
“ODIN!” he screamed, and a flash of light occurred behind him. It looked like lightning, but I believed it was so device doing that.
I looked behind him quickly.
A round metal ball sat upon a curved wooden basin. Above it was something similar. I thought, maybe those metal things are using magnetism to cause lightning?
I smirked.
And walked up to the man and pushed him at it.
Instantly, the magnets generated electricity, and Thor began to shake violently, being struck by the lightning. I grabbed his cloak.
“Who is this client? You know of whom I speak!”
“Odin’s wishes are fulfilled through me!” he sputtered.
I threw him angrily at the ball which generated more lightning and repeated the action.
“Who is your client?” I yelled through gritted teeth.
“Odi-”
I did the same thing.
“ODIN IS NOT YOUR CLIENT! WHO IS IT?” I yelled. I heard Rose scream, but I didn’t hear her.
“Odi-” Thor said, cutting himself off. “Leone.”
I had heard Diana say something like that in Italian before, and I had a pretty good idea what-or who- it meant.
Lionel.
I lifted Thor up from the ground. I was about to throw him at the lightning and leave him there for good.
“Colin! STOP!” Rose screamed. I turned to her and dropped the almost unconscious Thor.
“Pagan,” I muttered before exiting the building.
It was dark outside. The moon was almost up and I never realized how much time had passed.
Rose ran out of the store. “Are you okay?” she asked. “I had never seen this…”
Side of you, I knew she would say. I had never revealed my anger until now. My anger had gotten the better of me. I had almost just killed a man...
“I’m just angry. An evil man was in my presence and I hadn’t even the notion to stop it.” I told her, avoiding eye contact.
“Let’s go. I don’t want to stay here in Orleans.”
We had been on the path two hours when we heard a shuffling ahead. I unsaddled and looked behind a tree.
Several figures were standing before me. One person was being pinned by a muscular man, while one spoke to the captive. Then there was a bright green flash. And nothing else.
