Chapter 7: The Forest
“Idiota! Si doveva dimenticare di mettere in valigia un po 'di soldi!” I yelled, I had no memories yet I was scolding myself in a totally different language.
In my haste to escape from my tower I had forgotten to pack money, a cloak, and food.
What was worse I hadn’t eaten anything since the day before. I seemed to have terrible luck now and all because of some imbécile memory loss. The only thing that had originally been in the saddle all this time was a manuscript on the indigenous flora and fauna not to mention a pretty sharp dagger.
Well maybe the manuscripts could help reading title I couldn’t help but laugh at who wrote it.
A botanical and zoological account of Tours Forest
By: Duchess Diana Collins
Who would have thought my own manuscript would help in a time like this. But wait just a minute if I had been writing about the forest. Could it mean I had somehow hit my head while riding on Moonlight?
As I quickly flipped through the pages I came to the last recorded event.
November 12: Spruce Trees
Well this didn’t help at all I didn’t even know the date. Who knows when I could have written this? Oh why didn’t I ask what day it was? How could I be such a imbécile?
In fact don’t answer that I would rather not know.
But even as I was about to put away the manuscript I found a very interesting entry on edible plants. Well the manuscript wasn't a total loss. Dandelion well luckily there was a small patch of them though not enough. Dead-nettle wasn’t that bad although a bit sweet. I occasionally found walnuts but more often found hickory nuts.
But I kept the mulberries, hackberries, and greenbriar for later. And I wasn’t taking any chances on trying to get meat I still wasn’t ready for that just yet. After that though I started looking for clues on anything that might explain the whole memory loss.
I was so busy looking for anything that could be a lead I didn’t notice the figure that was following me until it was too late. I had found a pile of stones with strange markings and had picked one up when he clamped his hand over my mouth.
“You better come with us without resisting or trying to run away or we will harm that friend of yours Colin and Lady Rose as well” he whispered harshly, terrified I could only manage a small nod. “Good” slowly placing the rock in the pocket of my dress I completely forgot the dagger until he wrenched it away from my hand.
Tying my hands behind my back roughly, the rope digging into my wrists I noticed Lionel ride up on his horse with a smirk. “Poor Diana it’s a shame you had to go running off like that” he said smugly "And it's an even bigger shame that William paid the price for it."
One thing was trying to keep me in a tower but another thing was trying to hurt my friends. “You knave how could you go and do this I thought you cared about me!” I cried out angrily, putting his hand under my chin he smiled “Oh I do care. I care if you’ll still marry me when you receive that inheritance of yours.”
So that was it he only wanted the inheritance I was going to receive. To think all this time I had thought he was some kind of saint. Apparently he wasn’t more like a monster in disguise. “But we can’t have you telling anyone about this or it would ruin the whole point” suddenly he had an evil grin on his face.
It made me shudder just looking at him.
“I wonder what would happen if you lost your memory again but this time looking at me as the hero and Colin the villain” at this I did try to lunge at him but I couldn’t. The last thing I remember was his maniacal smile before he snapped his fingers.
And bright green light engulfed me and a deep voice spoke “Et memini hoc modo oblivisci omnia estis sponsoque” before everything went blank.
