CHapter 5: The Tower

As I lay sleeping I felt someone pick me up in their arms but I thought nothing of it thinking I was dreaming. But that morning when I awoke I wasn’t in the garden but in my quarters.

Getting up I looked at the tower I was in it was mostly filled with books, journals, and all sorts of other things. It really did look more like someone else’s room but it was mine.

To think this place had been familiar days ago saddened me to think every precious memory of mine was gone. The only memories I did have were of Lionel but even without my memories I somehow knew they couldn’t be at all accurate.

It still seemed like early morning so I decided to head to the dining hall.

But when I tried to open the door it wouldn’t budge an inch. I leaned against the door and heard someone outside my quarters.

“You are to make sure Diana does not leave her quarters I don’t want that Colin to help her remember anything until our wedding day. Do I make myself clear?” I couldn’t believe my ears it was Lionel.

I didn’t understand. Didn’t he want me to recover? What was so wrong with Colin helping me recover those memories? And didn’t he really intend on keeping me here for a long time? And how many days were left until the wedding day?

All I knew was I needed to get out of here and find Colin. I searched the entire room until I found a small coil of rope not nearly long enough to get out of here. Looking out my window I saw a tree. The rope wasn’t long enough to get to the ground but maybe enough to reach the tree.

As I tied the rope to my bedpost I prayed I would be able to find the answers I was so desperately looking for. After some moments when I was sure the rope had been tied securely I began my descent.

At first it went well but the rope was still too short I could either climb back up or jump down and probably hurt myself.

I went with the dangerous one.

But before I could jump I felt myself lower when I looked up I saw the rope was beginning to break. Without a second thought I jumped just as the rope snapped.

The branch I landed didn’t last for long before it broke under me and I fell down.

The tree’s limbs scratched my face and arms but I was lucky enough to not have broken any bones. As I stood up feeling sore I noticed the hem of my dress was in tatters but it was a small price to pay to escape Lionel and find my real friend.

As quietly as I could I walked toward the stables and found Moonlight. With help from William the stable boy I was able to saddle her up.

“If Lionel comes looking for me tell him you haven’t seen me and if Colin returns make sure to tell him I went looking for him.” And with that I mounted Moonlight and rode in a gallop back toward the place where I would find my answers.
