Chapter 14: Preparations for Sabotage

When Diana had left, I didn’t know what to do about the wedding. I needed to stop it- but how?

The first thing I decided was there was no way I could do this covertly. I had to attend, despite my

hope not to.

I exit Diana’s room. I had to find the person who was close to both Diana and Lionel.

I hit my hand hard against the wooden door, serving as a knock. When the door slides open,

Rose screams.

I quickly put my hand over her mouth. “Silence!” I hiss.

Rose thrashes angrily, but she gradually slows until she does nothing. When I let go, she gets

up. “I don’t want anything from you! You betrayed us! You should be beheaded!”

Harsh words, I think.

“Rose, it’s not what you think!” I say gently. I explain everything to her. When I finish, I add.

“Rose, you know I would never do that.”

Her expression remains unchanged. “Really? What do you have against Lionel? Can you answer

me what he has done to you without lying?”

I gasp. “I’m not lying, though! Remember when we were children?”

Rose nodded reluctantly.

“Lionel always said ‘I want to be king of the world!’ What kind of child says that?”

Rose shrugged. “Everyone thinks about it!”

I laugh. “Well, Lionel was completely sure when he said it!”

“I have no idea where you’re heading with this, Colin.” Rose said.

I angrily clench my fists. “Why are you so easily caught in Lionel’s web of lies?”

Footsteps resound outside Rose’s door. I press my ear to the wood. Rose does the same.

“Double up on security in the banquet hall. If Colin is seen, make sure he gets nowhere near the

ceremony. I don’t want anyone ruining my chance of getting the land and money.”
