...
Just then, I heard a loud explosion. If it didn't sound so threatening, I would've made a mental joke about how it reminded me of Deidara-Senpai.
I stood up, ready to fight. The enemy was near, I could hear them.
Gaara stood up, seconds after I did. "Something wrong?"
"There's an enemy nearby," I replied quietly. He merely nodded, and popped the cork out of his sand gourd, ready for a battle.
Then, I heard it. I heard him.
"I'm back," an oh-so-familiar voice laughed maniacally.
I turned around quickly, only to meet the face of someone I had not seen in a while. The opponent I was up against in the Chuunin Exams.
"Remember when you humiliated me during the Exams? I didn't like that one bit. But I'm not that weak anymore, Sora-san," he spat.
I narrowed my eyes. "What exactly do you want?"
"Isn't it obvious? I want revenge."
I laughed humorlessly. The idea was almost amusing. If he was that pitiful during the Exams, there was no way he could've trained enough to improve so drastically as to beat me.
Gaara glared at him threateningly. He was about to do a simple "Sand Coffin," and end it all quickly when I touched his shoulder. He looked at me, puzzled. "No," I mouthed. "He's my enemy."
He looked like he was going to open his mouth and argue, but stopped, growled softly, and stepped aside. "Thanks," I whispered.
Akita didn't bother to say anything else and grabbed his katana, giving a quick slash at me. I flipped backwards, landing on my feet and cracking my knuckles.
"Oh, you're serious, aren't you?"
I guess he had enough of my taunting.
"Stop taking this so lightly! I'm about to kill you, remember?!"
I just rolled my eyes. "Sure you are, darling.
"I'm taking this lightly because if you continue to use your anger as a weapon, you won't become a good fighter. Since you're letting your emotions get the better of you, I know you're not a worthy opponent."
I should run for the position of Kage or something. Never knew how good I was at words. Hm.
Dismissing that idea, I realized that I really did it this time. His anger seemed to grow, and he aimed for my neck. I ducked, dodging a swipe that would've cut my head clean off and ended my life.
"You handle the katana improperly. Stop swinging so recklessly or you can kill yourself."
"Stop talking down to me like I'm a child! I can kill you!"
"Can you, really?" I asked him, raising an eyebrow.
He turned red in the face, his breathing becoming ragged and uneven, his anger almost paralyzing him. I took that chance to kick him in the stomach, grab his katana, and pin him to the ground. I placed the blade to his chin threateningly.
"Give up yet?"
He spat out blood and scowled, making his face less attractive.
"I don't want to have to kill you," I muttered in all honesty.
"..."
He took the katana out of my tight grip in one swift movement and stabbed me in the chest. Had he gotten my heart? I couldn't breathe. The pain took over my brain. I fell to the ground and it became so much more difficult to breathe.
My vision blurred. I have got to stop fainting all the time. Gaara stood up, preparing to kill the boy when I pulled out the katana. I put a hand over my chest, and it started glowing with green chakra. Thank goodness I learned a bit of healing ninjutsu.
Black spots swam in my vision, and I stumbled forward. This wound was really bad. Akita smirked in victory. I wouldn't let him win. I forced half of my chakra into my healing, and with my remaining chakra, I performed a justu.
"Earth Style: Target Earthquake..."
It got Akita, and it seemed that he wouldn't be able to move for a week or so. I walked up to him. "This...this is why...you don't challenge me."
My wound reopened, and I dropped to my knees, coughing up blood. I didn't have enough chakra left to heal myself.
"Gaara..."
"...?"
"Please...take me to the hospital...haha...I'll repay you if you help me....again."
Gaara grabbed my arm and started heading toward the hospital with my leaning on him, getting blood on his clothing.
"Oh...and...come back for the boy...Akita...later...he needs medical attention too. Maybe more than I do...I think I went a bit overboard."
Gaara frowned at that. "Alright."
I coughed up more blood, and he quickened his pace. When my breathing stopped for a second, he seemed to panic for a bit, and used his sand to get us to the hospital as quickly as possible.
"I'm glad you care...Gaara," I smiled, my eyes feeling really heavy.
