After the...well, "incident," yesterday, of course, Deidara-senpai and Tobi were in no shape for the mission assigned to them today. I had to take their place to find and pretty much kill-I mean, uh..."interrogate" a guy who had gotten on the Akatsuki's nerves.
At least I don't have to deal with those big idiots anymore. The mission shouldn't take too long, a few days at most. I would replace Deidara-senpai as Sasori-danna's partner for the time being. I grabbed the last of my things and prepared for a bit of hard work.
"Are you ready yet," came Sasori-danna's dull, monotone voice through the doorway. "Yeah, just a second." I shoved a last scroll into my bag and zipped it up, slinging it over my shoulder.
"We aren't going to be that long," he said, glancing at my bag. "Meh, better safe than sorry," I replied, shrugging. He blinked, but didn't respond as he started leading the way out of the base.
Sasori-danna had hidden in his puppet, Hiruko, once again. To be honest, that puppet scared me, with that glaring face and the threatening steel(or some kind of metal?) tail, but I wouldn't say a word. Didn't want anyone to think I was a big baby or anything.
I scoffed at my own thoughts, earning an odd look from Danna, but, as usual, he didn't say a word. We had gotten pretty far when I began getting tired. "How long is it by foot?" No reply. I pursed my lips. "Where are we going, anyways?" Again, nothing. "Are you even listening to me?"
I could imagine him rolling his eyes inside of the puppet. I huffed, balling up my fists and puffing out my cheeks, annoyed. He could be more than twice my age, but, hey, nobody likes being ignored. "Danna!" I whined, like a child who didn't get its way.
"Don't become as big of a brat as Deidara," he warned, shutting me up almost immediately. "Sorry," I squeaked. I did not want to get on Danna's bad side. It's terrifying.
We travelled for about another half hour wordlessly. I didn't understand how he was not even a bit fazed by the distance we were travelling across. Then again, he wasn't human. Man, I should have turned myself into a puppet, or even a doll, like Saso-danna. It would benefit me so much.
I was lost in my thoughts for a long while, and didn't notice when Danna had suddenly stopped walking. I skidded to a stop, turning my head to look back at him. "Danna?" I asked, raising an eyebrow. "We're here," he rasped. My lips made an "o" shape, and I turned my head back around. My eyes were met with a foreign village's gates.
"Ah..." I muttered. "...I have no idea which village we are supposed to be at." I swear I heard Sasori-danna facepalm from inside of Hiruko. "Ugh, can't you read? It's obviously..." Hiruko stopped in front of the village gates. "Actually, I can't tell either." "They did a pretty bad job making the sign, eh?" I joked. He didn't seem the slightest bit amused. "Man, loosen up, sheesh. Everyone needs to loosen up."
After forcing our way through the gates, we were both pretty surprised to see that there were no guards on duty. Well, Sasori-danna was as surprised as he could possibly be, and that wasn't saying much.
"I'm guessing this is a real sucky village," I sniffed, eyeing everything suspiciously. "Whatever. We need to find our target. We don't have time for judging the poor construction and management of this place." "You agree with me!" "Shut up, brat."
"So, how do we find a single person in this..." There was a moment of awkward silence. "I should've expected this. Not a single person up and around." I sighed. "You sure this is the right place?" "When have I ever been wrong?" I frowned. "Arrogance is not-" "Be quiet."
Then a blur of colors flashed above the roofs of the houses. "Did you-" "Shh." Hiruko's tail rose, as if motioning for me to be quiet. The two of us watched for the movement again. I began to wonder if it was just a squirrel, but then I saw it again.
