A calm breeze brushed through the unusually still air of the playground. Golden rays seeped through lightsoaked leaves, dying them yellowgreen and dappling the earth in illuminative spots. The sky was a bright sapphire canvas with swirls of white painted onto it. There were no signs of incoming rain on this beautiful sunny day.
"YAYYYYYYYYY" you and your best friend, Sugawara, said in unison while jumping on your trampoline.
"That was awesome! Let's do it again!" Sugawara said eagerly.
Yet you two did it again, and this time, after jumping up, you landed on your bottom, causing the trampoline to make a ripple affect, making it even bouncier. You beamed and were about to point it out for Suga, when you realized...
He was gone.He had fallen off the trampoline when you did that super-bounce.
It took you a few seconds to process everything.
"OHH MYYY GOD I KILLED SUGA OH MY GOD OH MY GOD IM GONNA GO TO JAIL HES DEAD HES DEAD OH MY GOD OH MY GOD HALLLLPPPPPP!!!!!!!!" You screamed.
"IM FINE." You heard a yell from the other side of the trampoline. You saw his head pop out from the side of the trampoline.
"I'm fine, ___" he said with a smile. You get off the trampoline and stand in front of him. You scan his anatomy for any visible injuries. There's a growing bump on his forehead that he hasn't seemed to notice. Your gaze travels down to the small scrape along his elbow, and the trail of blood trickling down his arm.
It's always like this.
You break a window and he 's the one who admits to doing it.
You make a bratty kid cry and he's the one who gets scolded by the mother.
You have fun and he's the one who gets hurt.
Wounds; he gets them for your sake.
The sting in your eyes worsen, and your guilt finally finds escape through the flood of tears spilling down your cheeks, and containing them no longer withholding.
"Ehh?!" Sugawara flusters, not anticipating this kind of reaction. In response to your wailing, he can only do hand flails.
"Why're you crying?! A-Are you hurt anywhere?" He questions with worry glazed in his eyes. He grabs hold of your hand and pulls you up slowly, all the while his concerned look focuses on you. You don't answer him- more like you can't because of how choked up your throat is- and he begins leading the way towards a neighboring bench. Rubbing your eyes coarsely with balled fists, the scene is a complete, melting blur. You feel yourself get tugged along and can only depend on your considerate friend to maneuver you around the miscellaneous toys and large pebbles littered around the playground.
Upon arrival at the bench, Sugawara lets you sit down first before taking his own seat beside you. He makes sure the tree's shade reaches you before he leaves you to your business, quietly listening to you sob whilst ensuring you don't wander away from him by tightening the entwine of your fingers with his.
"You know ____, I'm okay. A few scratches here and there aren't things that bandaids can't heal.." He starts, a vague idea of why you're crying finally entering his mind after a few minutes, "But you know, you won't be okay if you keep rubbing your eyes like that! My mom said that rubbing your eyes real hard can ruin them-- Y-You know?" His lips curl downwards into a frown, and his brows furrow so much the skin between them becomes an endless stack of creases that still isn't enough to convey how hard he's struggling to cheer you up.
"B-But.." You start.
"No buts! I get worse injuries during volleyball practice. They always heal and I'm always okay in the end. Please, stop worrying!" He takes in a deep breath before sustaining the rest of what he has to say.
He ponders intensely for a moment, and an idea hatches in his head.
"Wait here!" He says.
Shortly after leaving you, he comes running back with a handful of something that makes you feel like tearing up again, this time in happiness.
Now, you kind of realize how much of a crybaby you really are.
"Ta-da!" He singsongs, handing you a bouquet of variety wildflowers found all over the park.
You accept it with open arms and glimmering eyes.
"Waa, Koushi.. It's beautiful.."
The sudden change from your usage of last to first name basis almost makes him happier than the shining look on your face.
"Like you, ____!" He smiles kindly.
"T-Thank you.." You whisper, burying your nose in the blossoms and inhaling the sweet, wet scent of the wild plants.
He chuckles, "Just don't cry again, okay?"
You nod slowly, full of hesitation because you're unsure of your ability to keep that particular promise.
He notices and slings an arm playfully around your shoulders, "Well, it doesn't matter because even if you do, I'll always cheer you back up!"
You giggle and look down at the florets in your hand. You look up and see Suga holding his hand out towards you. But something about how he reaches out to hold your hand again tells you that you have nothing to worry about.

You're the one who falls in love, yet he's the one who falls even harder.Extended Ending:
"____"
"Hm?"
You spin around to see Sugawara paler than snow.
"I just realized that there's a sign that says no picking flowers from the park.." He mutters weakly.
"Eh?!"
"Wh-What if I get arrested..?"
"Don't say that! You can run away and hide in my house tonight! We'll build a fort in my room, okay?"
"You're a lifesaver!"
