The girls decided they wanted to go shopping for new clothes for the fall semester that is coming up next week and I had to be dragged along. I’m not fond of shopping. Not even when I was younger. I hating spending hours at a mall and the only thing I ended getting was a shirt or a pair of jeans. It’s a waste of time. It’s annoying… just like it’s annoying now. They tried picking clothes out for me to try on but I declined every offer and have a miserable, uninterested face expression.

“You aren’t being fun.” Teases Athena

“I told you I didn’t want to go shopping. I was forced to come.” I say.

“You needed to get out of the damn house. You never leave it.” Says Jasmin as she picks a shirt off a rack of the sale section at Forever 21.

“I’m content just laying in bed and eating cookies all day.” I respond back.

“Yeah… that’s sad.” Lucy joins in.

“I just get annoyed hanging out with people all the time. I like my space.” I say darkly. They don’t say anything after that remark and continue to shop for another half hour, they each end up buying stuff. As we leave the mall and head to Jasmin’s car, my phone goes off. It’s Andrew.

“What?” I say.

“Hey, Cam. I’m gonna need you to run an errand before you get home.” He says. I hear laughing in the background.

“I ain’t a servant. Why can’t you do it? And where are you?” I say.

“I’m at our apartment. There’s a baseball game on and I invited the guys over. I was gonna ask you if you can get some pizza for us when you come back from shopping.” He says.

I sigh. “Okay, fine. But I’m inviting the girls over as well. You better have beer there.” I say as I climb into the car. He says thank you and hangs up. I tell the girls to drive to the nearest pizza place to buy food.  It takes us about twenty minutes to get the pizza and arrive back at the apartment. As we enter the room, the guys are yelling and giving high fives. I guess someone must’ve done a home run or something. As the girls join the guys in the couches, I drop the pizza box on the coffee table.

“Eat up.” I say and I look up to see Harry’s face. I hold the gaze for a moment but then look away and head to my room but Andrew stops me.

“Where you going?” he says.

“I’m going to change into comfortable gym shorts.” I say with a, I’m- not- just-gonna-dip-on-you-guys look on my face. After I change into shorts I come out of room but dreading because all I wanted to do when I came back home was chill on the couch. Now I have party in the living room. I am so not a person to be around sometimes. I walk over to the kitchen and open the refrigerator to get myself a beer. I close the door and pop the cap open and head my way to the living and sit next to Harry in the couch, since that’s the only spot open. I kinda feel like they’re trying to set me up with him and I don’t know why. Harry looks a bit surprised when I sit next to him as in we had our incident in the morning but I don’t let that make anything awkward. He’s going to be part of the group so I might as well try to get along with him.

“Sorry about earlier.” says Harry as he leans into me, which caught me off guard.

I shrug my shoulders and say “It’s whatever,” and try focusing on the game.

“You really don’t like me, huh?” he says with that stupid grin on his face. It’s not stupid… it’s hot. Everyone else is focusing on the game and laughing and I’m guessing nobody is really paying attention to us which is good.

“I never said that. You did.”

“You don’t have to. It’s already stated by the way you interact with me.”

I give him a sympathetic smile. “I just don’t make friends easily.”

“Yeah, I can see that.” He says, rolling his eyes.

“Aww, well I’m sorry I’m not one of the girls who throws themselves at you.” I snap back.

“I didn’t say that.” He challenges back.

I yawn and then say, “You’re no fun to talk to.” I get up from the couch and head back into the kitchen to find something to snack on. Pizza isn’t really what I’m craving tonight. I go throw the cabinets and find stuff to eat but I’m debating between chocolate chip cookies or potato chips. The next thing I know, Harry strolls into the kitchen with an annoyed face expression. I just look at him and laugh.

“You’re annoying.” He states, sliding into one of the kitchen chairs.

“I know.” I say as I grab the cookies from the cabinet, making my hard decision of life final. “Look here, Harold-“

“It’s Harry.” He interrupts.

“Whatever. Same shit. I know I’m annoying and bitchy, but that’s the way I am and I can’t really change that. I’m like that with everybody.” I say sitting across from him, chewing on a cookie.

“I kinda like it though.” He says with a big smile.

“Stop flirting with me.” I say, smiling back.

“You’re doing it right back.” He points at me.

“Me? No, I’m not. I’m trying to be civil with you.” I say, eating another cookie.

“Bullshit.” He says, trying to get a cookie I smack his hand and he pulls back. “Ow! What the fuck was that for?”

“I don’t share my food with anyone.” I say.

“Okay, Cameron. The amount of flirting is ridiculous. Just say you want me.” He teases. Oh this kid is so cocky and arrogant.

I lean in closer to him and say, “If I want you, I can have you. I don’t have to say it.” I say as I stare deeply into his eyes. He bites his lips and just smiles at me. I’m already playing the game I do with the other guys I’ve done before but I feel like I would have to work extra hard for it. He doesn’t seem like he’s someone to break down so easily.

“What are you thinking?” he says softly, almost in a seductive way.

“That these cookies are really good. I think I’m going to buy more tomorrow.” I say and make myself back into the living room to finish watching the baseball game as I leave him back in the kitchen alone.
