I woke up at noon on Saturday and I took a long shower and put on an old t shirt and shorts and watched Legally Blonde on the couch. I didn’t have anything really planned for today and Andrew wasn’t home, he’s never around anymore sometimes. But that’s because he’s a bit older and has his shit together unlike my ass that has nothing to look forward too. “Maybe I should get a job” I say out loud. I laugh at myself and say no because I’m loaded with money. A little over half an hour later and I get hungry to get up from the couch and make myself a veggie grilled Panini with some potato chips on the side and a fruit salad that contained melon, strawberries and slices of oranges. I head back to the living room as I eat my lunch and finish watching the movie. After 3, Andrew comes through the door and says hi as I wave back silently as I finish my last slice of orange of my fruit salad. A few minutes pass and he comes out of his room in a comfortable UIC t shirt and gym shorts. He heads to the refrigerator and I make my way into the kitchen, sitting on the high chairs on the kitchen counter.
“How was work?” I say. I knew Andrew worked for a local Walgreens around where we lived. Even though Andrew was loaded with money like I was, he still wanted to work and earn his own money. Sometimes I wished I was as ambitious as he was.
“It was alright. Wasn’t really a busy day.” He says, popping the cap off a Budlight.
“Cool.”
“How was bowling last night? I heard Harry was your date.” He said, smiling at me. Harry. I managed to forget about our kiss last outside the door of the apartment and I doing a good job keeping it off my mind until now.
“First of all, he wasn’t my date. Second, I didn’t know he was even going. It was alright though.” I say.
“You didn’t know it was a double date?”
“It wasn’t a double date.” I say through my teeth.
“Oh right, Cameron doesn’t do dates.” He mocks me then takes a drink of his beer.
“Exactly.”
“Doesn’t it get old?”
“What gets old?” I say, raising an eye brow.
“Having a boy toy?”
I roll my eyes. “Andrew, we’ve had this conversation before.”
“I’m serious though, don’t you want to find someone who has the same interests as you? Someone who you could tell your dreams and secrets to and talk for hours and never get sick of them? Someone who makes you feel comfortable and safe with?” he says.
I laugh at him. “You are such a romantic.”
“Not all guys want sex. Some of us want more than that.”
“And not all girls want relationships.” I fire back.
“You know Derek is eventually going to fall for you.” He says.
“So let him. I’ll dump his ass like the rest.” I say. My patience is running thin.
“Cam,”
“I’m nineteen going for twenty this October. I’m young. Let me have fun while it lasts.” I interrupt.
“I’m not telling you to settle down and have kids. I’m telling you that maybe it’s time you get a boyfriend and consider having feelings towards someone. Not lust but love,” he pauses. I glare at him. “I thought… I thought maybe after that happened to you these past years you-“
“Stop,” I warn him. I’m not going through that phase again.
“If you could just-“
“Shut up! Don’t you ever know when you fucking close your mouth? I don’t want to talk anymore.” I say getting up from the high chair and storm out of the kitchen and slam the door to my room shut. I don’t want to talk about my past. That was then, this is now. I would like for it to stay like this. I spend the next few hours just sulking in my dark room watching tv once again. It was around seven thirtyish when I get a text from Niall.
