Monday came rolling in and I dragged myself out of bed to take a shower. When I dried myself off I went into my closet and I decided to wear dark blue skinny jeans and a t shirt of Miami Horror, one of my favorite bands and then I slipped on black Vans on. I grabbed a pack of pop tarts and headed out the door. “Better early than late. Don’t want the teachers up my ass if I come late to class.” I muttered to myself as I got into my car. That rhymed. Ass, class. I laughed out loud. It took me about twenty minutes to get school and get to Listening to Music. I enter the classroom and about half the people are already in here. I take a seat all the way in the back and just slouch in my chair as I nibble on one of the pop tarts I brought from home. I just stare mindlessly around the room until I hear a thump next to me which startles me and I turn to the right and see Harry sliding into his seat. I return to finishing one of my pop tarts and offer the second to him and he takes it but we both stay quiet for a couple of moments until he breaks the silence.
“So, did you and Derek have a fun night after ditching the party that night?”
I give him a sly smile and say, “Of course we did.”
“What’d you guys do?” he pressed on.
“We played Monopoly. What the fuck do you think we did?” I say.
The teacher comes into the classroom and a good morning and jumps right into the lecture as soon as he’s done taking attendance. Harry and I don’t talk for the rest of class which was fine by me; I didn’t want to get distracted by any means as I promised Andrew I would try to get good grades this school year. Class was dragging major ass though as we sat and listened to different classical music and talked about the composers. At one point, I looked at Harry and he had one of his hands on his forehead while leaning to it with his eyes closed and I couldn’t help but giggle at him. He definitely did not like this class at all. Twenty minutes later the class got dismissed and I was putting my notebook and pen away and looked at Harry and was sleeping. I was torn between waking him up or leaving him here while the other class got here, I was an asshole but not that big of an asshole. I gently shake his shoulder and his eyes open and looks at me with a confused look.
“You fell asleep during class.” I say, swinging my book bag over my shoulder.
“Shit.” He says, rubbing his eyes. “Did we get homework?”
“Yeah but he’s going to email the assignment to us. You didn’t miss much; we listened to classical music and talked about the composers.” I said, checking my phone for messages. I make my way out the classroom but he stops.
“Would you like to go eat some breakfast? I know that poptart didn’t fill you up.”
“I can’t skip classes today,” I say. I look at him and he gives me an understanding look. “But we can eat after our classes our done. I get out at four.” I blurt out. I don’t know what came over me by saying that. Shit. Shit. Shit.
His face lights up and smiles, “Okay. I’ll pick you at your place. Give me your number.”
I walk up over to him and we both exchange numbers on the phones. After that, we say goodbye and go our separate ways. My next class, which was psychology didn’t drag so much and I actually paid attention and did some group work with three other students. My third class cancelled which meant I had a little over an hour to chill so I decided to call Athena up and meet me at a Starbucks and I knew she was on break. About fifteen minutes, I spot her sitting on a table, looking through her phone with two drinks next to her. I walk towards her and the sit across the table.
“Hey,” I say.
“Hi! Here I got you Passion tea. Don’t worry about paying me back, my treat.” She smiles.
“But-“
“Shush. So what’s up? Class got cancelled? Why?” She asks too many questions but I just grin back.
“Teacher got sick and wouldn’t be able to make it,”
“You’re so lucky.”
“I’m gonna hang out with Harry and go somewhere to eat after my classes are done today.” I blurt out. I look down at my drink, not wanting to look her but I sense that she had a very big smile on her face.
“Oh my god,”
“Athena…”
“You say you don’t do dates but this is a date.”
“No it’s not. I’m just hanging out with him.”
“Yeah, that’s called a date.” She insisted.
“No it’s not- I don’t even know I agreed to it.” I say, sipping on my tea.
“This is the start of something new,” she sings.
“Don’t go all high school musical on me,” I warned. “You’re not taking this seriously, Athena. I’m going to smack you.”
“Oh lighten up. I think it’s cute. I think he likes you. Not that you do well with guys actually liking you, but still.”
“I don’t want to go now.” I sulk into my chair.
“No you have to. Don’t be lame.”
“I’m not lame. I’m nowhere near that. I also have to tell you something but you have to promise not tell Lucy and Jasmin. Or the boys.” I say. I have to tell her about mine and Harry’s kiss that night.
“I promise. You know I never break promises,” she leans into me. “So what is it? Because you’ve been shaking your legs since you sat down and I know you’re nervous about something.”
“I kissed Harry the night he dropped me off after we went bowling.”
