Classes were easier than expected. Plus Jasmine was in almost all of them with me.
I walked through the halls just getting out of my last class when a guy ran into me. He had stepped out of a room just as I walked by, ramming his body into mine.
"I'm so sorry," he exclaimed, grabbing my arm to catch my fall. I looked up to see Daniel, that guy I had met in the courtyard. "You." He smiled at me.
The guy who had hit on me.
"You," I said, laughing nervously.
"I was hoping I meet you again. Mind if I walk with you to your dorm?" Jasmine had disappeared with her roommate for some club thing, so I really didn't have anyone to walk with. I shrugged.
"Sure."
We walked down the sidewalk in silence. I wasn't sure what to say exactly, like I said, I wasn't really good when it came to guys. He wasn't the best either, only recalling trying to start a conversation when we were at my building.
"I meant to text you, but I've just been busy with senior stuff, ya know?" Oh. So he was a senior.
"Oh, no worries, I'm sure you have a lot on your plate." I tucked a piece of loose hair behind my ear, his eyes watching my movement. A soft smile formed on his face.
"Well, if you're free at any point this week, I would love to grab a coffee or something." Was he asking me on a date? Him, a senior, asking me, a freshman? Hell, I had only been here for two weeks.
I started to answer but quickly stopped when I heard a familiar beeping sound coming from the inside of my building. I turned my head slightly.
"Do you hear that?" Daniel furrowed his brows in confusion, but I knew what it was, it was the fire alarm.
Typically, when you hear a fire alarm, you try to get as far away from it as possible, but for whatever reason, I darted inside. Luckily, there wasn't any real fire, in fact, most of the people inside hadn't even left. I ran up to flights of stairs to my floor to see a group of people standing outside of my room, the door wide open and smoke pouring out the top.
Oh no.
"What's going on?" Daniel asked from behind me, I hadn't even realized he had followed me inside.
"I'm not sure." I pushed through the crowd until I could see into my room. The microwave door was wide open and smoke flooded out. Xavier sat on his bed with red sauce all over his face and down the front of his shirt, some RAs standing in front of him. "Xavier?" His eyes shifted over to me and he grinned.
"There she is." The RAs turned to face me.
"Are you his roommate?" I frowned.
"Unfortunately."
"Well, your roommate here decided to cook lasagna in the microwave and set off the fire alarm for the entire building."
No. Fucking. Way.
I met Xavier's eyes and had to look away to prevent myself from laughing. What an idiot.
"Well I'll make sure it won't happen again."
"We appreciate that."
Afterwards, they managed to turn off the alarms and get rid of the smoke smell. People started to disperse and before I knew it, it was back to normal. Daniel lingered behind to help clean up the pasta sauce that was all over our walls.
"Thank you for helping, you really didn't have to," I said to him after most people had left. We stood in the doorway.
"You don't have to thank me." He smiled and I felt my stomach twirl.
