~ Chapter 6: Truths That Hurts ~

Leif’s eyes opened with sudden shock, half expecting to see the cinderblock room he saw in his dreams. Sweat damped his entire body and his heart was beating like a drum. He looked up to see that he was shaded by a lone tree in a clearing. He sat up and saw the butler speaking to a man leaning on the tree to his right and the girl he had encountered earlier to his left, resting against the tree sleeping, he guessed.

He groaned as he tried to stand up with a pain in his legs preventing him. Farron and the man glanced over him and approached him. Farron caught Leif as he collapsed, telling him to relax and to not move. “Who’s that?”

Farron turned to the man. “Oh! Right, this is-“

“Sherbert,” he finished, smiling. “I need to ask a few questions, Leif.”

His smile suddenly became serious and a tad bit aggressive. Leif looked at the butler kneeling next to him with questioning eyes. He nodded in reply, assuring him that he could trust the man. He guessed he wanted to ask about what happened. No, I can’t tell him about… that, he thought.

“Alright,” Leif said with a weak voice. “But I can’t guarantee I can answer everything you ask.”

Sherbert sat down and smiled. “Okay, let’s begin.”

“First of all,” he began. Leif gulped and waited in anxiety. “Was she mad?”

“Huh?”

“Lumina. Was Lumina mad?”

“At what?”

“Never mind,” he shook his head.

Confused at this situation, he went along with it. Lumina must be this girl, he thought, but I don’t… remember her being angry. More like scared the hell out off.

“Two,” he raised two fingers “What happened?”

“W-what happened?” he replied nervously “W-what do you mean?”

“COME ON REALLY!” he raised his voice “We come over to where we sense a dark magic aura and we see you and my apprentice there on the ground with her being wounded like she was in a battle and you with no scars whatsoever!”

“W-well…” he stuttered. He glanced over at Farron, signalling him to help out. But Farron shook his head and replied with ‘tell him’ look.

“You could say…” he said, with the other two staring him down with anticipation. “We ran into a demon.

“Demon?” Sherbert asked “You mean Fuyu?”

“I……”

Silence filled the area for a while. Leif’s hair covered his face, almost if he was hiding something.

“….I don’t know.”

Sherbert eyed him, doubting that last sentence Leif had said. But he hid his prying side with a smile and a ‘thank you’. Leif looked up at Sherbert once more and asked about the girl to his right. He explained that she got into an accident where she was from and was travelling with him to aid him on his journey. He also told him that he should ask Lumina herself for a more detailed explanation.

Leif sat beneath the tree, wearing away his fatigue along with his worries. He had a strange feeling, like someone was calling out to him ever since he woke up. He shrugged it off and began to think. Why did he turn into the… creature he was at the encounter with Lumina? What triggered his ‘dark side’ to engulf his him like that? Strange, he thought, I’ve never been that… that demonic! Why did it happen? Ugh, ever since Fuyu appeared, I’ve been more-
