Today was the grand opening of my Mum's bakery, well her and her friends. She had spent countless hours at the shop making it look it's best and the last 24 hours making all the goods that would be getting sold. I hadn't yet met her friend but I knew her name was Debbie. The name of the shop was "Sweet Treats" which I told Mum was really cliche but she loved it. The only problem was Mum wanted me to go and help out in hopes that I would like it and get a part time job. I guess it wasn't going to be too bad as Mum was offering me a salary that I wouldn't get elsewhere. I told her she didn't have to offer me that much but she insisted.
"Jade" my mum called up the stairs "are you ready we have to go!" It was only 6am but the bake shop was opening at 9am. I grabbed my coat and phone then headed down the stairs. My Mum was stood at the bottom finishing off her look in the mirror. I smiled thinking about how excited she was for this.
"I'm ready when you are" I smiled.
"I can't wait for you to meet Debbie. I'm sorry it's this last minute I've just been so busy" Mum apologised.
"It's fine, you know I've been just as busy with college. I haven't had time but now it's summer I can help out" I replied. We then made our way into the car and we spent the whole way going over everything in the bakery.
"I'm excited for you to meet Perrie" Mum said with a smirk on her face.
"Perrie?" I questioned.
"Debbie's daughter, she's the same age as you. She has been at the bakery a lot the last month helping us out and she's going to be the one teaching you" Mum said.
"Oh? What's she like?" I asked.
"Oh she's lovely, really sweet. You'll get along just fine with her" Mum added. We arrived and Mum parked her car. The sign outside the shop just reflects my Mum's personality. The window displays were empty but I saw a blonde girl starting to fill them.
"That's Perrie" Mum said pointing towards her. Perrie's eyes soon found me and Mum and she started waving. Mum grabbed my hand and quickly dragged us towards the door. Walking in I instantly could smell the sweetness of the cakes and goodies that were cooking. I took a deep breath in and let all the scents fill my nose.
"Smells good doesn't it" I heard an unfamiliar voice say. I knew it had to be Perrie and I looked straight towards her and nodded.
"It smells great, the whole shop looks great. You've all done such a good job" I told them.
"Thankyou! I'm Perrie by the way, Debbie's daughter" Perrie said walking round the side of the counter and holding her hand out to shake.
"Yes, I'm Jade" I said whilst shaking her hand.
"Why so formal you too, you aren't at a job interview" I heard my Mum laugh from behind me. She had put her apron on and brought out a tray of cupcakes. Perrie laughed and went back round the counter.
"Are we arranging it like we discussed Norma?" Perrie asked whilst taking the tray from my Mum.
"Yes pet, exactly like we discussed. I will leave you two pretty faces in the front to serve customers whilst us old timers are in the back" she laughed.
"Who you calling old!" I heard another lady shout from the kitchen. Her voice got louder as she poked her head round from the kitchen. She looked so similar to Perrie and her voice sounded the same. "Hey Jade".
"Hi Debbie" I said with an awkward wave. She laughed whilst mimicking my actions. She then returned into the kitchen with my Mum closely following her.
"Ok so I'm going to go over what me and the Mums have planned out. I don't think it will be too busy today with it only being our first day. You're ok with working with me?" Perrie asked.
"Of course, I'm fine with everything" I smiled and then listened to Perrie as she told me what the plan was.The shop was open and when Perrie said it wouldn't be busy, how she was wrong. It was 12:17 and the shop was heaving with people. Opening it up in the middle of summer was great for business but not great for my little legs that were running back and forth. Also in the kitchen Mum and Debbie were stressed out trying to bake even more goods as half of our stock had sold within the first few hours. The customers however were lovely and I think we picked the best neighbourhood to place the shop. Children come in with their friends and politely asked for a cookie or cupcake with the biggest smiles on their faces. The good thing about the shop being busy was the day went quickly and before we knew it, it was closing time. Perrie went to the front door and turned over the sign to say closed and locked the doors.
