Chapter 6

The once calming waterfall was now my worst nightmare.

Every little sound made me jump and every shadow made me shriek. I was on edge, waiting for the worst to happen.

Then I heard it, the sound I was waiting for. She started screaming; screaming so loud it made my ears ring.  I was panicked but I knew I needed to save her.

With shaky hands I pull my cell phone out and dialed Zara’s number. She answered on the first ring.

“Did you get her?” she asked sounding panicked.

“No, not yet, Can you make sure there’s a portal at the waterfall?”

                “Yeah, no problem.”

“Oh and make sure Ava’s ready to start healing her.”

                “I will, and Whitney?”

                “Yeah?”

“Be careful, don’t get yourself killed. We need you,” she said sounding like she was holding back tears.

“I will, I’ll see you soon” I said and hung up.

I put my phone back; breathed in a shaky little breath then ran as fast as I could.

I ran into a different clearing, tears I couldn’t hold back any longer streaming down my face, because I just knew it she---whoever she was---was dead, her screaming stopped almost before it started.

I was about to turn around knowing I failed and she was dead, but before I left I heard a moan.

I look around and a couple feet away from me was a girl. I choked back a scream, looking at her made fresh new tears stream down my face and made my shoulders shake from silent sobs that I wouldn’t let out.

She looks like she was fourteen maybe fifteen. Seeing what the monster did to her made my stomach heave. Her neck ripped open so wide and deep you could see a faint white from the bone, she had scratches all over her arms, stomach, and face. She had big gashes in her knees and a scar right down the length of her collarbone.

She moaned again and slightly opened her eyes.

“Help me” she said so quiet I barely heard her.

I looked at her. Slowly kneeled down and picked her up as lightly as possible.

I started walking back to the waterfall and saw her eyes slowly close.

“He’ll regret ever doing this to you, don’t worry I’ll be sure of it” I whispered and I met it, he was going to pay for hurting this poor instant girl.

I took the last few steps and walked into the portal that lead me into the medical room.

It was crazy, everyone was surrounding the girl and I. She was out cold so we set her down on one of the beds and started to bandage her up. Ava sat in a chair close to her chanting healing spells over and over again; she was crying the whole time. You couldn’t touch her though, or she’d yell at you. I couldn’t believe it, how could something do this to her? To anyone? It was sick! I felt horrible for her. She didn’t deserve this. No one thought she would make it, but we still had to hope.
