Chapter 8

"S-so dark..."

She sighed for the third time, unable to find her way through the thick trees. She hung her head low, panting heavily. The moment she woke up in the forest, she started to run. It wasn't the greatest idea since she was easily exhausted after a while.

"I'm tired..." She whispered to herself, slipping on the red hood she donned from falling into the entrance to Wonderland.

She hugged her red cloak to keep her warm. The red cape with a hood was surprisingly long that dragged across the floor.

"Why do you always get into trouble, Lyra?" She asked herself as she gripped onto a tree for balance.

Lyra shivered. It was summer when she fell into the hole, she remembered clearly. But this forest that surrounded her was winter. The trees' leaves had fallen off leaving bare branches to hang there. Lyra loved winter but this winter was a lot different. Despite the leaves gone, the trees' branches was thick enough to cover the red sky, making it almost pitch black. The snow wasn't it's pure white colour but black, yet she could barely make out the colour. Black, cold snow. Lyra held out her hand to touch it. It was colder then she thought and immediately whipped her hand out of the black snow.

"C-Cold..." Lyra started to shiver.

"Must st-stay awa-awake..."

Her body was pale.

"B-But it's s-so c-cold..."

Her lips started to turn blue.

"S-stay awake L-Lyra..." She puffed out. "Stay...awake..."

Lyra's knees started to break, making her fall into cold snow. Black snow was way colder than normal snow.

'Why don't you do anything useful?!' A voice rang out in her thoughts.

The voice was familiar. Lyra would hear it everyday.

"Pant...Stay...pant...pant...awake," She curled up into a ball to find her body warmth.

Her eyes lids started to get heavy. They wanted to drop badly.

"W-why...don't...pant...you...pant...pant...do a-anything...usefuー" Lyra's eyes soon shut.

Footsteps approached the unconscious body. Silver eyes examined Lyra's condition and immediately realised she needed warmth. Arms picked her up and carried her.

Lyra opened her eyes and was in a foreign building.

"Where am I now?" She questioned quietly.

Lyra propelled herself up with her elbows. Her eyes were still hazy but her sight was soon getting clearer. She could make out that she was in a dark stone building that were lit up by lanterns. Lyra was on a soft, wooden bed with a blanket on top of her. The red hood cape was folded next to her and only then did Lyra realise the hood was like Little Red Riding Hood's hood.

"Little Red Riding Hood huh?" Lyra whispered and fiddled with the fabric. "That was my favourite story..."

The doors opened and out came a man who was holding a tray of bread and soup. Lyra could recognise him as Silver. The man Blue was so happy about seeing that she hugged him. He also appeared as a cloud of black smoke, making Lyra cautious. Yet, he wasn't on his orb either. Then Lyra's eyes averted to Silver's ears and tail, causing her eyes to lock on them.

He said no words as Lyra couldn't take her eyes off him. She noticed after a long while when he placed down the tray.

"Eat," he said quietly.
