It was Friday, the last day of rehearsals before graduation on Sunday and while if it had been any other Friday I'd have jumped for joy, I sensed an air of reluctance to leave the school. I knew it wasn't only me, because Amar, Gabe and Jake were usually out of school within ten seconds after the bell, but here we were, at two thirty, thirty minutes after the bell, sitting in the cafeteria.

"I'm gonna miss you guys" I said, looking at the three of them. Nate gave me a little smile and Amar and Gabe rolled their eyes.

"Oh gimme a break. Dont go being all dramatic"

Gabriel stood up. But I knew they felt the same emotion I did. It was one of those moments when you could tell by just a person's body language that they wanted to say a million things but couldn't find the words.

"Lylah, Jacob? What are you guys still doing here?" I heard the familiar voice of Ms. Palmer behind us. She took a seat beside Jake.

"Hey beets" She called us beets because of our red hair and Jake always pretended to hate it but I sensed that deep down he kinda liked it. He gave her a little smile and rolled his eyes. She laughed.

"So you guys are just gonna sit here and stare at the stage forever?"

I sighed. "It's just kinda hard Ms. P, to just leave. When we weren't here, we wanted to be here so bad. Now we're here and it's shocking"

She smiled and stretched over to put her hand on my leg. "I know what you mean Lylah, it was the same with me and my old school"

We laughed because we knew this school was her old school. Jake got up.

"Well, staring at the stage really isn't gonna save the word let's go."

"True" Amar stood up dragging me up. We said bye to Ms. Palmer shortly after then left.

                                                                                                        ...

My friends had come off the bus ten minutes now. I lived the furthest out of our group and I really didn't mind living on the countryside. It's just that it's so far from everyone else. I came off the bus and trudged up the footpath seeing the lighted window of my house from all the way down the road. When I got to my doorstep, I wiped the mud my feet on the straw mat, opened the door and stepped inside.

"Hey mum" I flipped on the light.

"Hey Lylah, how was school?" Mum said. She was sitting in the couch chewing bread and watching the news.

"Don't tell me you were by that pond again" she looked at my damp clothes.

We stopped by the pond before going home and some jumping in had been involved..

"Um" I ignored her question, "What's for dinner?"

"Pizza's in the fridge"

"Yum" I went upstairs to take a shower and change. I hopped in the shower and jumped as I turned on the pipe. The water was icy cold.

"Oh Lylah I forgot to tell you the heat's off again!"

Great timing.

"I realized mum!" I shouted back.

I heard the familiar voice of Judge Judy as I went downstairs. My mum was addicted to that woman. Sure enough, mum was knocked out cold on the sofa, with her mouth wide open. It only took the woman two seconds to fall asleep. I touched her shoulder.

"Mum"

"Hmmm" she said sleepily.

I hated waking her up.
