Lee was serious about the road trip. It took her precisely two weeks and four days to plan the whole thing. It was Tuesday, and I'd only heard from Amara twice.
Mum called or Skyped us daily. She always said she was fine though I couldn't bring myself to ask about 'him'. I just wanted to know she was okay and seeing as I didn't spot any scars or sense anything suspicious apart from the fact that my mother practically ran into the arms of a killer, my panic level subsided.
As the days went on my attitude towards Chris changed. I liked our conversations alot.. more than I let on. I rolled over in the couch waiting for them to come downstairs and decide on a date.
"Lylah! Can you take Jack outside a little!?" I heard Lee scream from upstairs.
"Coming!" I ran up the stairs, passing Christina leaning on the wall on the way up. I jumped.
"I didn't see you there"
"Yeah, I haven't seen you all day." She smiled at me.
"I've been outside."
"I went out there. I didn't see you."
"I wasn't by the pond. I went waay back to the huge trees around there."
"Lylah!" Lee screamed again.
"Arent you scared around there, alone?"
"No, why would I be?"
"That's where the wild things are."
"That's why I go there." I smiled, then winked. That caught her completely by surprise. Ha! I continued up the stairs.
"Hey when you're done do you wanna hang out?"
I looked back down at her. My heart sped up.
"I'd like that. Where do you want to go?"
"Lylah. Naomi. Newell get your red arse up here right now!!"
Chris grinned.
"Go, before she explodes, just come outside when you're done. I'll be down there."
"Okay." I ran up the stairs to Lee.
...
I went outside afterwards."Hey" she was sitting in front of the pond again, something usual for us these past two weeks.
"Ready?" she squinted her eyes up at me.
"Yes"
"Let's go." She held her arms up and I grabbed them pulling her up. She held onto my hands. I think it was natural the way my breathing rate sped up. After all she was holding on pretty tight. At least that's what I told myself.
"What?" she asked.
"Nothing." I smiled, wriggling mine from her hands. She looked at me questionably.
She grabbed my hands again only this time my knees wobbled.
"I said its nothing."
"Then why are you acting so strange?" Her eyes danced.
"I'll tell you another time, come on."
She still held onto my hands. She moved her fingers so they were in sync with mine and my heart rate accelerated.
"You look pretty today"
Classic.
If it wasn't coming from her I would have rolled my eyes all the way to the back of my skull.
