"Lylah! Lylah! "

I started panicking.

"It's just me calm down" I heard mum say. I rubbed my eyes to clear my vision. I was looking at a curtain. Mum's head peered over mine and I realized I was on the other side of the bed.

"Get up! Today is your graduation!'

I stared into space blankly until realization hit me. Today was the actual day. I jumped out of bed and stared at mum before running to the shower. I quickly slipped off my pj's and jumped in the shower. Without looking to see what tap I was turning, I felt a slice of icy cold water hit my back.

"Aahhh!" I jumped out of the reach of the water and used my foot to turn off the tap and quickly switched on the red one. I couldn't have stayed in there for longer than two minutes because the heat from the shower was honestly putting me right back to sleep and I was hardly awake already. I brushed my teeth and smiled at the notion of my hair still having the rods in. I quickly got dressed and went to my room to pick up the bag I had packed before. I stood at my room door and looked around to see if I had forgotten anything. I closed my room door and went downstairs.

"Lively up yourself! Today is your graduation! You only get one high school graduation in a lifetime" mum said placing a plate with eggs on the counter.

Mum and her "enthusiasm"

'Yes mum, I know"

Eggs again..

I opened the cupboard and took out a slice of bread. I hated bread. Almost as much as I hated soup but I had to take at least a slice because I knew my mum would start going off about how the body needs food and I could faint from yadda yadda. I didn't even bother sitting. I folded the bread in half and used my hand to scoop up some scrambled eggs from the plate;, a phony attempt of making a sandwich but it was the best I could do- at the moment anyway. I saw my mum looking at me with disdain from the corner of my eyes but pretended not to. She didn't say anything though surprisingly. Normally she would go off about how important it is to be a lady. Ignoring her, I took three huge bites out of the bread and threw away the edges.

"Ready" I turned to mum.

"What?" I laughed. "Why are you looking at me like I'm a zoo animal?"

"Because I'm actually really wondering if you are" mum dried her hands and picked up the keys from the top of the fridge.

I rolled my eyes and picked up my bag. I checked my phone for the time. It was precisely six minutes to nine so we had time. We had to be at school by two to be in order and graduation started at two forty five sharp. I started to get nervous, thinking about it.

I checked my phone as soon as I got in the van to see if Amar had texted me.

                                                                                            ...

It was to eleven when we were got to the shop. It had a sort of sweet smell that was making me feel sick. Mum went up to the microphone at the front.

"Morning. I'm here for a C.Brar? We have an appointment at 11:10?".

"You're Miss um Miller?" A stuffed mouth responded after a beep.
