"Fuck, fuck, fuck," Yuu muttered, trying to fit the key into the apartment door. It was beyond freezing that night, after 11 PM. All was a blurring white and gray. The flecks of snow still had debris from the past year's... events. Finally jamming the damned key into the door lock, Yuu came upon a new challenge. Stairs. Oh well, at least it was drier than outside.

Some time later, Yuu found himself slumped on his sofa, eyes staring at the ceiling like most time after work. It was just so... blank... The white plaster held no texture. Nothing to focus on. It was all white.

It was getting late, which means after a quick shower it was bed time. 11:49, the clock read. The later it gets, the more the feeling of emptiness expands inside. Or was it always that empty? Yuu couldn't tell anymore.

A single dim light illuminated the hallway connecting the bedroom to the living room. Somewhere in Yuu's mind, he felt the same. There was still light, even if it was only one tiny spark.

The hot water and steam were one of the most significant factors for heat he had. A nice shower after a long day is always appreciated. The drops rolling down his back carried the grime and sweat into the drain.

Yuu looked at himself in the steamed mirror. Just like that, the imperfections vanished. It was blurry behind all the fogging, just like how he looked at himself. A blur. There wasn't any defined outlines. What was there to his life now, now that everyone he felt like was important to him is gone.

    Except Guren. He's still here.

Back in his room, there was a leather-bound notebook given to him from no other than Lieutenant Colonel Ichinose. It was a journal of what happened out there on the battlefield written by someone unknown. Since Yuu has a condition called amnesia, there isn't much he could remember. Guren gave it to him as a gift... of sorts. Since Yuu was as stubborn as always and wanted to find answers like hell was after him. Maybe Guren gave it to him because he wanted Yuu to stop annoying him. Or maybe he actually wanted Yuu to know what happened, at least, a little bit.

Yuu was sure that he memorized the whole book. But one mystery still clouds over his thoughts. Mika. The name wasn't on anywhere in the book. Yuu knew what he kind of looked like; blonde hair, pretty tall, and wearing a black and white uniform.

The name rang in his head again and again. Like a bell without chimes, it swings back and forth hollowly, without sound. He asked Guren about Mika once, but that was during his recovery period, which was several months ago. Never again was the name brought up. Yuu pondered a lot about this mysterious person. Was he someone important? Was he a friend or a foe? His brain did him no good.

Yuu's doorbell suddenly rang. He sighed in annoyance of having to get up, it's past midnight for goodness' sake. Who could it be?

Yuu prepared an angry rant at whoever it may be at the door. "Hey-" Yuu jumped back in surprise. "G-Guren?"

He sighed. "Yeah. Hey. You left all of this at the office today," he said, dropping off a fiber bag of papers. "Baka Yuu," he muttered on his way out. Yuu didn't even get a chance to say thanks. He stared down at the pile of papers. It looked heavy. He tried lifting it up. Oh. It is heavy. Yuu groaned. He might as well just sit here and sort through the stack.
