A Year's Worth Of Lost Memories

A few weeks ago, Guren told me the world had ended one time and faced literal hell. I didn't exactly believe him after seeing such a nice and clean building I was in. Today, he decided to show me the outside world. I say outside because well... there was a huge wall. I've seen it before and I seriously had no idea what it was protecting us from. Guren doesn't talk about the wall that much except for some stories outside. Usually, the military wouldn't let people outside since it was dangerous or something but apparently Guren was some big-shot there and the people immediately let him through. I mean, I knew he was in the military but at the most I expected him to be a... captain or something leader-y. Why a leader? I don't know either, but something tells me he would probably be one. So, when we got past after 3 gates of verification (him saying "I'm Guren Ichinose" and shoving an ID card up in their faces when it wasn't enough), we finally made it out.

Destruction. Monsters. Family.

I was put into first-person view. There was a lavender colored hair girl, the most innocent boy I have ever seen, a pink haired guy who pissed me off immediately but was strangely familiar, a blond haired girl who was probably pissed at me, and Guren. Everyone seemed to be fairly happy and a little bit anxious.

"Oi Yuu you alright?"

"Huh?" I came back to reality a little bit dazed at what I saw. I was sitting down for some reason.

" Idiot... Alright look around you. Tell me what you see."

"..."

"Hey? Are you back yet?"

"...What happened?" I managed to say. There was fallen buildings everywhere. A car was smashed into a lamp post. Bits of weed grew out of the abandoned land. It was what Guren described it as. Literal hell. Except less firey.

"Well for starters, you stepped back and fell on your ass. Second, do you remember what I told you a couple weeks ago?"

"The world had ended."

"There's your answer." I took in all the information. The world had seriously ended once. People survived. But what could've happened for the world to end.

"But how did the world en-"

"That's for next time. For now walk around and see where it leads you. But stay near me." He paused. "There's probably things that could whip your ass. Like a cat." Guren teased him.

I was pretty insulted. That idiot thinks I can't beat a cat? I'm like 100 times its size or something! "Hey! I could totally beat up a cat-"

"That's animal abuse, Yuu." Guren replied smirking as he talked. "Now start walking around or something. I'll protect you in case something goes wrong." What could even survive out here anyways. I didn't know what to really do and I didn't want to humor him, so I just started walking around and asking questions.

"What happened here?" There was a burnt out campfire; the only thing that remained was blackened logs and bits of ash. Were there even trees out here? Oh wait, there's one. It was on it's side and most likely dead but there was definitely wood.

"Beats me. Do... Do you remember anything," Guren said hesitatingly seeming very cautious about saying anything.

"Uh... I don't know," I replied confused. Why did he ask a question like that? Was... Was he trying to get memories back? Something drew me closer to the logs and there was a sudden flashback.

"I'll be your friend!"

"It's painful being alone."
