Lucia Damon leaned on her locker in the school hall waiting for her friend Natalie to grace her with her presence. Luce turned to her locker shoving books into the small space that was already overcrowded with a year's worth of jackets and extra clothes from marching band practice.
A pair of thick arms wrapped around Luce's waist hugging her against a strong chest. "Guess who?" Luce flipped around in Kevin's grasp to look up at the blond boy, "Someone who almost got punched. That's who." His blue eyes glimmered with joy as he thought of a comeback.
He poked out his bottom lip, "Come on Luce, that's not very nice." Luce's blue lips stretched into a devilish smile, "Since when am I nice?" Kevin started to say something else when a group of girls passed by them with evil looks, "Poor Kevin...you of all people should know not to hang around Lucifer too long. You might get burned."
Kevin scowled at Heather Gates pulling Luce closer to him. He could almost see the steam rising from her as her face turned blood red in anger. "Mind you're own business Heather." She laughed along with the three other girls that clung around her like planets orbiting the sun.
"Why? I mean, look at her! She could pass as the Grim Reaper wearing all that black. And her lips make her look like a corpse!" Luce stilled with a smirk, "Well at least I didn't have to have my father buy out the principal into passing you all these years."
Heather stiffened as her friends looked at her appalled wondering if it was true. Which it was. "Who even asked you, Lucifer?!" She grabbed her little goslings and left as the minute bell rang.
"Kev, have you seen Natalie? It's not like her to be late." Kevin shrugged making his blue letterman jacket crinkle as his shoulders scrunched the leather. "Not a clue, but we'd better get to class before we're late." Lucia nodded taking Kevin's hand as he led her through the emptying hallway.
The tardy bell rang just as Luce and Kevin sat at their desks in the science class. Ten minutes into the lecture on evolution, the door opened revealing an eerily calm Natalie. "Ms. Fletcher, why are you late?"
Natalie shot her green eyes at Mr. Tae as she fixed her blue t-shirt, "Personal matters. It won't happen again." Mr. Tae nodded and returned to his boring lecture on Darwin and his stupid finches.
Natalie slumped in her seat behind Lucia running her dark fingers through her dreads. Luce turned to her friend, "Everything okay? I've never seen you late before." Natalie shook her head, and when she opened her mouth to speak, You Know Who cut in.
"She probably got caught up with her brother's gang in that ghetto house of hers."
Even though she was beyond pissed, Lucia felt a strange calm overtake her as she stood before her lifelong assailant. Tingles ran throughout her body as she lifted her arm pointing a sharp finger at the shaking girl.
Lucia's black fingernail made contact with Heather's forehead and the girl let out an ear splitting scream as she began to shrink into herself. Popping and snapping sounded through her screams as blackish blue feathers began to push through her pale skin like quills.
When everything calmed down, the class was pressed against the walls to stay out of Lucia's reach as Luce herself stood in the center of the chaos. A raven's bark cut through the silence drawing everyone's attention.
"Well....that just happened."
