Chapter 7

Jodi's P.O.V.

The next morning I felt good. I didn't have a job but still, I felt free. I rolled around on the bed and felt the empty bed next to me. Kawhi went to practice early. Just then I heard a knock on the door. I stood up and walked towards the door. Once I opened it I didn't see anyone standing there. I looked down to see an envelope with my name on it. I took it and looked around before I walked inside. I sat on the couch and opened the letter

Dear Jodi,

It's Emily (Her mother) I hope everything is well. I know this is out of the blue but I think it's time you knew the truth. You were adopted... I know this is not the way I should tell you but you need to know. We adopted you when you were just a baby. You deserve to know who your real parents are. Your mothers name is Rene' Darrell. Your fathers name is Danny Green Sr. You have two brothers, whose name is Rashad Green and Danny Green. That is your biological family. For prove your birth certificate is underneath this letter. I am terribly sorry to tell you this just now. And through a letter. Please know that I love you and I always will

I put the letter on the couch and looked at my birth certificate. Under my real parents name. So my last name is Green. Everything I thought I knew. My life was a lie. I sunk back into the couch trying to take it all in. I sat there for what felt like so long. But then I grabbed my birth certificate, letter, grabbed my keys and walked out. I drove to where they were practicing and walked to the gym. I was walking in the hallway when I saw Kawhi come out and he saw me

"Hey, what are you doing here?" He asked approaching me

"Hey, uh is Danny here?"

"Yea he's inside"

I had the stuff with me in my back pocket "I need.. I need to talk to him"

He could tell something was wrong "Yea of course. What's wrong?"

I shook my head "Nothing I just need to talk to him"

He nodded "Okay, go ahead and wait in the locker room and I will get him"

"Okay" I walked away and went to the locker room. I was pacing back and forth for about five minutes

"Hey, you wanted to see me" Danny said as they both walked in

They were both dressed in the practice uniform. I nodded and Kawhi was about to step out "You can stay"

Kawhi stood next to Danny "What's up?" Danny asked

I sighed and took out the letter from my back pocket and handed it to him "This came in today at my front step"

Danny took it and read the letter while Kawhi was looking over his should reading as well. After they read it Danny and Kawhi both looked up at me. Faces completely blank

"Is this true?" Danny asked

I took out my birth certificate from my back pocket and handed it to him "Throughout my entire life I've never had my birth certificate. But this is the real one"

They were both just as surprised as I was "So.. Your my sister?"

I nodded "I guess so"

Danny pressed his lips together then looked at me "I remember. Once my mom had the baby she didn't let us see her. Then she promised never to speak of you"

I hung my head slightly down "Makes sense"

He walked a few steps and hugged me, he felt sort of hot but I knew it was from practicing. I hugged him back. I knew they didn't want me, reason why they gave me up "Hey, it's gonna be okay"

After we pulled away I nodded "So that means Derek and Daniel aren't my real brothers"

"Their your brothers, you grew up with them" Danny explained "But I'm your blood brother"

I nodded and exhaled "Okay, wow. This is a lot to take in"

Kawhi walked over and hugged me "I tell you what if you want to make sure. After practice why don't we go get a test done. See for sure"

I looked at Danny and nodded "Okay"

"Come on, come with us to the gym for the rest of practice" Kawhi said

I nodded "Okay" We all made our way back to the gym. I stayed and watched as they practiced for almost the entire day. Then Danny and I went to the doctors for a DNA test. They took a swab inside Danny's mouth. Then mine. The doctor said it was going to take one week. We began to walk to the car we both came in "What do you think the media would say?" I asked

"Media?" He asked looking at me "Yea, media" He let out a slight chuckle "I don't really care about all that. Plus I'm not embarrassed about my sister"

I laughed and we climbed into the car "I just still can't believe your my brother"

He chuckled as he began to drive "Yea I know. And my sister is dating my teammate. Which is cool"

"Thanks Danny. You ready for the game tomorrow?" I asked

He nodded "You gonna be there? With us?"

"It's an away game, but I will be watching on tv. You guys are going to beat the Grizzlies"

I was happy. For the first time I was really happy. Plus my life changed today. Completely
