Chapter 4.La Vie Avec un Hideux Homme et un Rabat-Joie Crétin

Once we arrived to the château Adrien and I left a very muddy Parker to deal with his muddyness. Apparently Adrien was actually Facheux's nephew, who lived in Nice, but he moved to Annecy two years before, from what he told me on our ride home, he was a plumber, a carpenter and a gardener, the kid was the complete package of a home decorator, although I wasn't certain of his creative abilities, to be honest...

River went straight to his bedroom and we heard the shower being turn on, I sighed and went to the kitchen, I sat on a chair and stole some cheese, madam Herriot was stiring some tomato sauce on a pot while Adrien stood on by the door, or where the door once was because now it was long missing.

"Adrien! Child, come come, sit sit." Madam Herriot ushered Adrien to take a sit in french and seemed all flustered by his presence. "I didn't knew you would be coming today."

"My uncle called me, he said the new owner wanted us to start the remodelations today, if possible."

"The what!" I yelled."

"The new owner, mr. Ellis." Said Adrien like it was obvious.

"What about me? This idiot never asked me!" I stood up and went to Parker's bedroom.

As soon as I was in front of the door I smelled the scent of his super manly cologne, I hated it, it was the kind of cologne suited up, perverted and codicious Wall Street men used. I pounded on his door like my life depended on it.

"Parker! Open the damn door! Goddamit!" I keept pounding, he opened the door and I almost pounded on his chest but stop myself just in time.

"What do you want, Venom?"

"Stop calling me that!" I spatted viciously. "Why did you decided to start the remodelations today? You didn't even asked me."

"We're not married, I don't have to ask for your permission."

"Thank goddess we're not, but this place happens to also belong to me, now, if you plan just to paint a wall, change the floor or pin a playboy poster you ask me, understood?"

"Like I said, you're not my wife, I don't have to tell you anything." He had closed the space between us trying to be intimidating, which to be honest he wasn't, you know, I had literally lived under bridges, there's nothing more scary than a person on speed trying to take your newspaper away, so Parker wasn't all that scary.

"This place is mine too!"

"Fine, we will dived it in half, that's your half an this is my half, and I'll do whatever I please with my half."

"Okay, good. Stay away from my half."

"And you stay away from mine!"

"Right away mr. Pompous asshole." I said to finish the argument and walked away angrily.

That same afternoon I got started with the old painting, I got rid of more than a half on the corridor walls by the time of dinner, while Parker and Adrien had barely taken out his stuff from Parker's bedroom. Then I went to have some dinner giving little jumps like little red riding hood.

Madam Herriot had prepared a cheese soup, I was the first to sit on the dinning room, Herriot served me, but I felt awkward so I helped her setting the rest of the stuff on the table; I thought about being educated and wait for the rest of the people, but after Herriot and Facheux sat, I decided not to keep waiting, so I started eating.

Adrien said goodbye and started leaving but I stopped him and told him to stay for dinner, I liked his company, he was nice and soon proved to be funny and a sweetheart, although I noticed Parker wasn't too happy about having Adrien around.

The next day the routine was similar, breakfast and then work, although during breakfast Parker and I ignored each other. When Adrien arrived Parker took his fancy laptop and went to the terrace and left Adrien working by his own, he started with taking off the paint on the corridor walls.

"So, what do you think of your boss?" I asked absent mindedly.

"He is... a person." He said giving me a soft smile

"Is he?" I asked and Adrien chuckled.

"That's argumentative..." He admitted.

"But don't let him hear that, he would probably throw a tantrum."

"I thought you two were married."

"What? Why? Noo! Eww." Adrien laughed at my reaction.

"He said you were the owners of the château, I just assumed it, I'm sorry."

"Don't worry, but how someone like me could be married to someone like him?"

"Maybe you saw past his hideous face and joy killing attitude."

"How could I? He really is hideous."

"Who is hideous?" Asked Parker's voice behind me.

"You." I said turning around while Adrien tried to pretend he was fully focused on the wall.

"Is that so?"

"Yes."

"Well, feeling is mutual."

"Is not a feeling, is a fact."

"Tell me why I haven't tell Lesavage about you?"

"Because all you've got are rumors, there's nothing you can prove because someone as talented as Venom would never leave any traces, would they." I ended my argument with a cocky smile.

Parker just took a deep breath before walking towards some boxes outside his bedroom and taking some papers out, he then returned to the terrace and I felt Adrien's gaze on me.

"Someone like you would never be with someone like him." He said with a smile.

"I can't even think of anyone, I wouldn't even want to be his friend."

"Why is he like that?"

"I don't know, and I don't want to know."

"Aren't you curious?"

"I'm curious about too many things, Parker is just not one of them."

"To be honest, I think there would be a lot of girls wanting to be with a millionaire like him, they would throw themselves at him, some boys too."

"Yeah... but who would be able to stand him enough to marry him?"

"Maybe he just needs someone to show him that the world is not that ugly." Said Adrien.

"Why would anyone would try to show him that the world isn't that ugly? Because first of all, it is ugly."

"I bet he has a reason to be that way."

"Really?" I asked with sarcasm.

"Yes, and the right person will show him that there are good things out there."

"Are there?" I asked.

"Yes, someone who isn't as negative as you're."

"I'm not negative, I'm realistic."

"You're the last person in the world that could show him." He said smiling and focusing in his work.

"Why are you so worried about Parker? Do you like him, huh?"

"No, he just... remind me of someone I met a while ago."

"Were they as hideous as he is?"

"Yes, but a girl came along and showed him the world can be a pretty place."

"To be honest, I think I'm the one who is in need of a someone to show me."

"I could show you..." Said Adrien, and I felt my cheeks get a bit too hot for my comfort.
