Chapter 6. L'Insoutenable Légèreté de La Curiosité

After that I was silent, and so was Parker, I had no idea why he had told me what had happened, it had been enough if he had just said that it just didn't worked out, now I felt a tiny bit bad about him, not enough to stop dispising him, but enough to consider that maybe he attitude towards me was so harsh because he was bitter, and he was bitter because he was heartbroken; it wasn't my fault and I clearly didn't deserved to be treated like that, but he didn't deserved to feel so sad and bitter. Still I couldn't help saying what I though, and I thought he was heartbroken because of his own fault, his own attitude towards life.

"Maybe you're right." He stated after a while of the both of us being silent.

"Really?"

"You think that she said no because I would make a terrible husband." I chuckled.

"You would be a terrible husband, but that was not what I was thinking."

"To be honest I can't believe you."

"I was thinking that you're bitter because she rejected you. But why? You attitude goes beyond how would you accomplish you good husband tasks."

"Why? What?" He asked rather harsh, maybe he was angry because I had basically called him bitter, which he was.

"Okay, why do you think she rejected you?"

"I don't think she was ready to settle down, she was scared."

"About settling down or about you."

"I don't know."

"Looks like no one is ever gonna love us." I said more to myself deep in my thoughts. Now was his turn to chuckle.

"We're gonna end up being lady cats."

"I'm alergic to cats." I said.

"Oh."

After that, both Parker and I spent a long time thinking, no one daring to say another word. For a while I even forgot he was right next to me; I just wanted to go home and sleep on my bed.

The next morning there still was a cold breeze, but it felt nice because it was already hot; I woke up and saw Parker sleeping next to me, I do have to admit he had a pretty face, a boyish face, it was a bit sad that he was so dumb and bitter behind that face, it irritated me. I poked him on his nose and started calling him, since he didn't woke up I poked him harder and began yelling his name with irritation until he woke up and put a hand on my mouth.

"Shut it! What do you want?!" He was fuming, as usual and covering my mouth with his giant hand. I learnt in that moment that he wasn't a mourning person.

I wasn't a mourning person either, but since I didn't even got to sleep sometimes for days, so having a night of sleep, even inside a GT car, was like being in heaven.

"Eww, your hand was on my mouth." I said once I put his hand away from me.

"And you woke me up!"

"Because it's day time, we can go to the house, have some breakfast and you can ask Facheux and Adrien to take your crappy car out of the mud later."

"It's not a crappy car."

"And why does it always gets stuck?" Parker didn't respond instead he just left the car, I did it as well.

Parker and I walked to the châteu in silence getting tiny drops on our faces, to be honest I felt like a rose by the time we arrived to the house, I went upstairs took a bath and went to have some breakfast; I couldn't begin painting the corridor because the painting still was on Parker's car, so I went to clean one of the tennis courts.

                                                                      --------------∞--------------

"Wow, you really are fast!" Said Adrien in french as he approached me.

"Yeah..." I sighed.

I was almost done with the tennis court, still I had to cut some weed that was growing around, do some gardening, do some painting and buy a net. Still I was proud of what I had managed to work out.

"What are you doing?" I asked him.

"Resting time, I had to take mr. Ellis' car out of the mud on my own, then bring the paint, I had to carry all of it from the place the car had gotten stuck to the château because mr. Ellis had some errands to run and needed the car, then paint, and then took wallpaper off of his bedroom." He indeed looked tired.

"He really made you do all of that?" It was too much! Even if he was paying Adrien! And make him carry the paint! I wondered if he had also to carry mine too, though.

"Yes."

"He's Satan himself."

"I think even Satan is a better boss."

"Yeah, probably..." I trailed off. "Hey, Adrien, do you know where can I buy a good laptop?" I asked.

After dinner I took my bike, Adrien joined me, he lived in the town itself, but I had to continue the rest of my journey on my own becuse I was going to a bigger city a few miles away, I didn't even wanted to think about how much my legs would end up hurting, but I had been a decent cyclist on my golden years.

I arrived late, but somehow the store I was looking for still was open, they didn't had all the equipment I needed and quite some time ago I had sold my own. As I began the journey back home on my bike with my brand new laptop I saw a rather familiar car, near a restaurant.

I was curious as to why Parker was there, you know, they said curiosity killed the cat, but it wouldn't kill me, or would it? I entered the restaurant in some incognito mode attempt, I looked for Parker, I didn't saw him until I was near the toiletes and I realized he was coming in my direction, so I opened the nearest door and put myself in, I stood there until someone opened the door, it was a male that was looking at his shoes, I realized I had entered the male facilities, so I put myself inside a toilet and closed the dor as fast and as quiet as possible; I sat on top of the toilet, with my legs up because I didn't wanted the person to see a girl was there, obviously.

"Yes, I can talk now." I recognized the voice immediatly... well, it looks like curiosity was actually gonna kill me.

"No. I told you, she doesn't wants to sold me her part." So I guessed he was talking about me, but to whom? "I don't know, she's stubborn... And what's the plan?... I don't know if that's gonna work out. I know, I know... Are you sure?... Don't worry, she won't try anything, she's not Venom, like that idiot told us, but she knows who Venom is... Don't worry, I'll find out." And then Parker left the bathroom...

Guess I bought a laptop just in time...
