Chapter 18-Wolves

A/N I'z adding Toby's IRL boyfriend Jayden or Swiss Cheese in so...yeah...I'm very sorry if this is nothing like him I have't actually met him yet :/
Can't introduce a new love interest without Hero Action >:D

*Jayden's POV*

I hit the bloodred ground hard, landing with a grunt. I look up and see that the portal I had dropped from was gone. I got up and brushed myself off. I smoothed down my brown hair and wolf ears that were slightly brighter than the crimson ground. It twitched and I listened. Someone was coming. I drew my small poisoned dagger.

I swore under my breath as the silhouette became visible through the red mist. I flicked my wrist and another dagger came flying from my sleeve into my hand. My ears folded back and I bared my teeth instinctively.

A girl stepped out of the mist. She was wielding a swallow, and for you non-nerds out there, it's pretty much a pole with blades on either end. I stifled a growl until I could see her clearly. She was about two or so inches taller than me, and her brown hair was long and slightly ragged. Her brown eyes were alight with determination. I sheathed my daggers and tried to intercept her peacefully. She saw my ears and tail and looked taken aback.

"Never seen a hybrid before?" I smiled good-naturedly.

"Hard not to, as I am one," she turned abruptly into a wolf. It had almost identical patterns as my fur, aside from being slightly darker. She saw my befuddled expression and shifted back, looking mildly amused. "Come on. We're looking for some other hybrids." I followed her, seeing no other choice, and pretty soon we came across a girl with fiery red hair.

"Any luck?" The girl said. The girl was about five inches shorter than the shifter hybrid and had blazing blue eyes. The taller girl shook her head. "Oh. Hello, what's your name?" She noticed me.

"Jayden," I said blatantly. "Yours?"

"Ember, and this is Toboe," Ember smiled. Another person came through the mist. He was dressed in a white and purple cloak with tousled brown hair. He saw me and unconsciously stepped closer to Ember, snaking a protective hand across her waist. She glared at him and nudged him away slightly. "This is Seto. There are...a lot more back at camp."

"Come on. We need to find Kai and Liz," Toboe interjected. She stalked off, and the rest of us had no choice but to follow. Seto muttered something to Ember, who nodded and said something back quietly. Toboe looked perpetually stormy, so I decided to go up to her and make conversation, hoping to lighten her mood.

"What exactly are we looking for?" I asked her curiously. Her eyes flicked to my face and met mine.

"Kai, who is a squid hybrid, and Liz, who is part of one of the Ender clans."

"Oh." We walked in silence, an awkward silence. I observed her and she met my gaze, an eyebrow raising. I averted it and blushed slightly. I dropped back to Ember and Seto, who had their hands lightly brushing the other's.

"I see something," Toboe alerted calmly. She held up a hand and drew the swallow. Seto unclasped a long quarterstaff from his back. Ember unsheathed two thin, lethal looking dual swords. I flicked my wrists in unison. The poisoned daggers came to my hands with the fluid motion. I drew my ears back and my red tail lashed. Something crept forward. "Dammit," Toboe swore. "Herobrine."

The flickering figure took shape and I saw the chilling white gaze. I growled and tightened my grip on my dagger. Ember and Seto shifted on their feet, their weapons shaking in a barely perceptible way. Only Toboe looked unfazed. "Oh, it's you! Toboe, I've been looking all over for you!" He held out a hand and she smacked it with the pole of her swallow.

"You have no right to be tracking me, stalking me!" she snarled. "Guys, go on without me. I'll sort this out." Ember and Seto darted off with me, rather reluctantly, on their tails.

*Toboe's POV*

"Don't talk to me like that," he almost whined. "Remember the mob? Remember what happened then?" He was thinking about the kiss. I uncertainly stepped backwards.

"That didn't mean anything," I protested.

"It did," he pleaded. He fished for something in the pocket of his jeans and pulled out a necklace, the sea green heirloom with a golden charm. "Remember this? You know it meant something, everything!" He leaned in and tried to kiss me. I dodged and hit him again with the pole of my swallow. I regretted not hitting him with the blade when he looked up, anger pulsing deep within his white eyes. I knew if I went unconscious he'd bring me to his sickening mansion, so I inflicted a little wound and dashed off. I felt bad for a second, but the bad feelings were dispelled when I caught up and saw Jayden's grin.
