"Help her," I commanded. Jet looked stunned.

"How did this happen?" He asked, flabbergasted.

"Just help her," I said. This was followed by a stream of cursing I don't wish to relay.

"Erm, hold on," Jet inched away and ran off. He came back with a bucket and dumped water on her.

"Idiot! I thought by now you knew she was a fire elemental!" I roared, punching him in the gut. You can say I was in a...sufficiently bad mood. Jet doubled over, wheezing, as Ember gave a cough. I whipped around, facing her. She opened her eyes weakly.

*Ember's POV*

I felt jostling beneath me. The fire of fright pooled in my gut and threatened to spread. It did, and my limbs lost their senses. Soon it was only my brain and consciousness left to defend against the shock. Suddenly, cold liquid splashed upon the downright hell about to consume me. I coughed, awakening. Expecting to see Jet, I opened my eyes with a smile. Instead, it was Seto gazing at me, his deep brown eyes an open door to his emotions.

I saw hurt, anger, and jealousy swimming in his eyes. I also spotted relief. I just looked back, stunned, into his brown eyes. I genuinely felt bad for kissing Jet after we had the journey and, well...

Jet pushed Seto out of the way. "Oh, thank goodness you're okay!" He yelled. I got to my feet and shook the water out of my hair and clothes. I heard a growl and saw Seto battling a bunch of zombies.

"You guys go back to school. I'll be fine, just go," he snarled at us, stabbing a zombie in the gut with a purple sword. Jet and I hurried off. As we reached school, I ducked behind a bush and Jet went inside without me. I crept back to the cave and watched, in case Seto needed backup.

*Seto's POV*

I imagined all of the zombies were Jet, and sliced through them with burning fury. One of them wielded an iron sword and I battled with it, the clang of our swords resounding. I spun around and impaled him through the side. I killed the last of them and stood there, panting.

Suddenly I felt a prick in my back. I turned around, my face pale. A skeleton stood there, the string on its bow twanging. I hurled a fireball at it and missed, my sight blurry. It did catch fire to a hidden one, and as it reloaded, an orange figure destroyed it. I fingered my stomach and felt the prickly tip of an arrow embedded in my stomach. My eyes widened. I swayed on my feet. Ember--or at least, I think it was Ember--came over to me. "Seto," she gasped. "Your..." She backed away, her eyes layered with a sheen of tears. I felt a tickle of warm liquid in my throat and tasted copper. I gave a wet cough and fell over, spitting out blood. White hot pain flooded through me.

"Stay awake," she pleaded. I saw the orange blob fading as my vision blurred. I heard every heartbeat, getting slower and slower, as I tried to keep my eyes open. I tried with all my might, all my magic, to keep my heart beating.

*Ember's POV*

I ran faster than I ever had before, seeking out the master of healing herself, Ms. Kanrachi. "Ma'am," I half-panted, half sobbed. "Need you immediately. Near death." She left her work hurriedly and followed me. I raced outside into the forest and found my friend in a puddle of blood. Weak white light danced around his form. His eyes were open and he gasped for breath. "Seto, come on, please..." I cried, my tears falling onto his face. Ms. Kanrachi burst through the foliage and ran to his side.

"Oh, damn," she cursed under her breath. It was a sickening wound. Seto was literally impaled by the arrow, masterfully shot by the skeleton. She started muttering and drawing runes around him with his own blood.

*Seto's POV*

Black spots danced across my vision and I grit my teeth to keep alive. It took all my energy to keep my blood flowing, to keep my heart beating. The woman was doing something on the ground beneath me, but I didn't care. Ember was beside me. The woman stepped away for a minute, perhaps for herbs. She bent down and kissed me. I lifted my arm, very weakly, and grabbed her. My unfocused eyes gazed into hers. Her beautiful, clear, vibrantly blue eyes staring into my foggy, glazed over, pained chocolate ones. She kissed my forehead and sat by me again.

The healer came back. I heard faint words. "Sir, you need to stay calm for this action. You may not survive it. It will be painful, and only the strongest can survive." With that she turned me over and removed the arrow from my body. So painful was this action that I literally started screaming. Ember whipped around, shocked, and saw the woman removing the arrow from my almost dead body. She inspected the hole, which was trying to heal itself because of my magic. "Nothing...extremely important damaged," she noted, seeing the blood slowly clotting and the muscles trying to stitch together. But not fast enough. "Ms. Burnne. Your friend...will not survive this."

Nothing in the world was more painful to hear than the agonized scream coming from my friend. With that, I forced my lights to burn brighter, my body to heal faster, and my heart to beat. This was extremely painful, but if it would stop her screeches of excruciating grief, I would do it. My wound burned and sweat trickled from my face. "Stop!" The healer yelled, bur I ignored her. Magic coursed through my veins and I used it to stitch myself together. "No, you're doing it wrong! Stop!" She shrieked.

Ember crawled up to me, tears running down her face. "Stop, Seto...you're not going to make it." Those words made my light die, my blood flow, and my heart stop.
