Chapter 14

I sat precariously on the couch, my heart is beating so loud I can barely hear anything past it.

My mind is shattered! I know he isn't human but how can that be? My mind is running away on me.

"I mean WHAT THE FUCK!!!.....How?....Why?.....Oh My God! I am going to die!"

While I'm having my panic attack, Aiden has been sitting quietly waiting for me to calm down I suspect. I had almost forgotten I was sitting beside him until I felt him staring at me.

Noticing his gaze after about 10 minutes of freaking out internally. I take about 5 deep breaths and release them slowly I finally bring my heart rate down enough that I'm only slightly at risk of going into cardiac arrest, I swallow trying to relieve my dry mouth. I turn and look him in his eyes and bob my head timidly letting him know I'm ready to listen.

Aiden watches for a few more minutes and I know he can still see the fear in my eyes. There is no way for me to hide it. He looks over my face like he's memorizing my features.

A look of acceptance comes over his face and he begins to speak.

"I won't be able to explain everything about my world to you, but I will tell what you need to know to stay safe."

I nodded my head in understanding. His face looks stern and unyielding.

"When I stopped Mason from taking you, And told him you were under my protection it saved you and put you at risk."

My eyes widen at that statement but before I can voice my fear he continues.

"You see, I'm kind of famous in my world." He says it as a fact not in a gloating or bragging way.

"I'm cannot elaborate on that just know that I am a very powerful vampire and many people know of me. There are beings that if they knew you were mine would hurt you to get to me."

At this point I did interrupt. "What do you mean if I was yours?" I ask in a shaky voice.

He doesn't look mad at my interruption but more like he expected me to ask.

"Basically in my world when I vampire states that a human is under their protection many automatically think that the human is the vampire's ........"

"The vampire's what?" I ask my voice raised.

He turns those blue eyes to me and says in an emotionless voice "The vampire's drudge."

"What is a Drudge?" I ask fearfully

He answers in the same flat voice. "A Drudge is a a vampire's current food source, they also are known as slaves to vampires if the vampire

wants them to be. They have to answer any command given by their owner."

I'm appalled! I'm will not be his fucking slave or food source! I don't voice that thought but as I look at him I know he can see my anger. He smirks slightly and continues.

"The way a human becomes a vampire's drudge is when the vampire bites the human injecting a certain pheromone. We only release it when biting a human we aim to keep safe from other vampires and other beings."

Before I can ask he says "I did inject you with the pheromone when I bit you."

At that my eyes bulge! Oh No! Oh God! It's too late.

"Calm down Lexa. I did bite you but you are not a Drudge. I don't have Drudges and I never plan to. Like I told you before I get my nourishment from willing donors."

I relax a little after he says that but I have to ask. "But you could make me one if you wanted to couldn't you?" I ask in a fearful voice

He looks thoughtful at my question and replies "Yes, I suppose I could if I wanted to but you have my word I will never make you do anything unless I absolutely have to based on your safety."

I study his expressions and look for any sign of deception but all I can see is sincerity. I let out the breath I was holding and wait for him to go on.

"Now, the bite on your neck will be fully healed in an hour or two but will leave a scar. Most humans won't notice it unless they specifically look for a mark but to other supernatural creatures it will show ownership and that should be enough to protect you."

"Should?" I ask

He sighs a little but answers.

"Like I said before I am well known, so there is a possibility that someone my recognize my mark and attack you simply based on that alone. Which leads me to my proposition I have for you."

I don't reply and just wait because I know I'm not gonna like what he offers.

He smiles a cunning smile and continues

"I am offering you the option to move in here temporarily so I can assure your safety......."

"What? I am not moving into this house with you! I barely know you and I sure as hell don't trust you!" I shout disbelievingly.

He nods his head "Somehow I knew that would be your answer.But I must impress on you that you and your family may be in danger and If I'm not around I won't be able to save you."

I inhale deeply with his last statement. I cant stand the thought of my family or friends being hurt so I thing for a moment and reply "How about a compromise?" I ask

He looks curiously at me and replies "Go on"

"For now I will return to my parents home" I hesitate and the say "but........if there is any sign of trouble for my family because of this, I will move in here temporarily, until you can assure my family's safety."

He looked skeptical but then his face shifted with a small smile. He reached his hand out to me. I place my hand in his and barely held in a gasp at the small shock of tingles spreading through my hand. He shook my hand and when I went to pull it back he held on. I looked up into his eyes and noticed he was looking at me seductively.

"Deal" he said then raised my hand to his lips and kissed the back of it. He lowered our joined hands down to his lap and then said

"How about a drink to celebrate before I take you home?"

"Oh that won't be necessary" I replied.

"But I must insist, there is a special tea that my cook makes that is simply divine, you must try some."

His voice still had the seductive quality to it. I nodded my consent.

"Excuse me for a moment and I will have the cook prepare it now." he stated while swiftly rising from the couch and left the room.

I had the sudden impulse to run and get as far away as possible. I dismissed it as soon as it passed through my mind. I wouldn't get far and I knew it.

What the hell was I thinking agreeing to possibly stay here? And I knew the answer. I was going to keep my family safe if something did happen.

I was still rambling in my mind when Aiden walked back in with a tea tray. He set the tray down on a side table beside him. He had his back to me do I couldn't really see what he was doing but by his movements it looked like he was pouring the tea.

I sat back and waited nervously just ready to get out of here. He turned around with a secretive smile on his lips and handed me a tea cup. I furrowed my brows at his off behavior. I look down at the brownish liquid and brought the cup to my lips and took a hesitant sip.

Wow! This tea was great! There was a light bitter sweet taste to it, but it was amazing. I finished the cup in record time and Aiden stated we could leave.

We walked through the massive house and made it outside where his car was idling. He opened the passenger door for me and then swiftly walked around and got in the driver seat. I looked back at the beautiful house hoping I wouldn't be seeing it for a while.
