I finally got the courage to go to the city. The sound of the blowing horns from side to side is such a music to my ear that time. As I enter the lobby of the building of my prospect employer I started to palpitate, my hands are sweating and my knees are shaking. I took a deep breathe and got inside. I handed my resume in the reception area and the receptionist handed me a form to fill out in return. They asked me to take an on-line exam. Then my name was called for the initial interview. It was actually a group interview. There were 5 applicants in the room. While waiting for the interviewer I tried to gather myself and act confident. A lady on a stiletto walked-in wearing a corporate dress with long curly brown hair on full make-up.
Hi! Good Morning! She greeted on a very strong tone. She introduced herself "I am Andrea, Human Resource Recruitment Associate" and she orient us with the interview process.
First question is "Tell me something about yourself that is not found in your resume" we answered simultaneously one after another. She continue to ask general questions and so far I am doing good. I answered her questions straight forward, looking on her eyes directly with full confidence. She was down to her last question. "Name one thing you are good about and what made you say so"It's my turn. I looked into her eyes and smiled "I would say that I am good in playing Poker" then I paused.
"And what made you say that you are good in poker Val?" She asked
"Okay, Let's play. Can you tell me what do you think I am feeling right now?" Then there was dead air.
"hmmm.. Val, from what I see, you are feeling confident right now."
"Is that bad?" I asked.
"It's actually good and we like that attitude." She said
"Thank you. But you lose. Because I am feeling very nervous as we speak." and we both laughed.
"You might want to teach me of your skills one of this day Val."
"Absolutely, If I'll get hired then I will be able to."
"Let's see.." then she turned to the last applicant leaving a smile on her face.
After the interview, she asked everyone to step out of the room except myself. She told me that she is endorsing me for a final interview and if I did good then I'm in. But she left with an assurance that the final interview will just be a formality but still, I have to take it seriously.
We shook hands and I thank her. My pleasure she said "See you around Val" she added as she turned around and left.
My nervousness is now replaced with excitement. True enough, I got the Job.On my way home, I received a text message "Congratulations Val. So when are you going to teach me to play poker?"
Oh Yes.. I got a double Job..
Andrea and I continue to exchange text messages and get to know each other better.
