I didn't have a real claim on you

We were in love

But the distance separated us

We didn't date but the 'I love you' we said every night,

Sure as hell made it feel like dating

I wanted you more than anyone

You were my best friend

You started dating her

And suddenly you weren't my best friend anymore

You didn't text as much

You replied with one word responses

I lost my best friend on that warm March day
