 HHYL Fanfic 2 Extra --- Brother-in-Law

Winter morning, the coldest time, even the birds refused to get up early to chirp, the sun also showed its unwillingness to rise. Despite this, within the Military Governor's Mansion were all sorts of commotion as if the New Year had come. The servants busily arranged everything in order, cleaned here and wiped there, while the maids busily sorted and arranged suitable ornaments to be used for such occasions. These preparations were all completed under the strict supervision of two housewives --- Cao Xin's wife, Hong Er and Liu Cuo's wife, Li Hua. Chu Mei was given the responsibility to supervise the kitchen as she was Xiao Sang's wife, who was the most familiar with their honorable guests' tastes. Both Hong Er and Li Hua hounded Chu Mei to no end about their guests but her tight-lipped attitude only fueled their curiosity, causing lots of excitement and teasing in the household.

Indeed, their Big Brother, the Marquis Lu Cang, had sent word that he would come to visit today, sometime around lunch. And according to their husbands, Big Brother's companion would never let him travel alone. They had to prepare for the worst, in case Big Brother's companion also came with him. Since a time long ago they had already known that Big Brother's companion was someone of the same sex --- actually the legendary story of the Emperor coming to Hangzhou with a vast and mighty procession for their Big Brother was very well-known even though nobody dared to openly talk about the Emperor's private affairs, thus the residents of the Military Governor's Mansion often received highly privileged treatment for having a strong connection with the Emperor.

Unlike Chu Mei and Xiao Sang, who were already quite familiar with Big Brother and 'Brother-in-Law' --- of course they could never say out loud the 'Brother-in-Law' words in front of the couple because they were too afraid that it would make their Big Brother embarrassed, Hong Er and Li Hua only heard about this 'Brother-in-Law' from their husbands without actually having met this honorable person before. Though he had dropped by several times before, Hong Er somehow always missed the opportunity to see this 'Brother-in-Law' in person.

Cao Xin always described the Emperor as the worst example of a human being, while Liu Cuo could only say that Cao Xin was traumatized by the Emperor during their first encounter. Xiao Sang didn't like to talk much about other's affairs, apparently after serving their Big Brother for so long, he had picked up his characteristic of being disinterested about the personal affairs of others, hence, they wouldn't get anything from Xiao Sang.

One thing all of them agreed on was that 'Brother-in-Law' was a magnificent godlike being who seemingly was capable of everything; it might just be the worst or the best thing to happen to Big Brother. Adding more to their curiosity and their eagerness to see this 'Brother-in-Law' in the flesh. They even took to learning the proper etiquette to greet their "Brother-in-Law" by practicing on their husbands. Cao Xin was most displeased with Hong Er when she practiced her greeting on him. All those in the household could hear his yells demanding which part of him looked like that Xuan Yuan Jing! Everyone cracked up laughing but Liu Cuo could only shake his head, praying that Cao Xin would not cause any trouble for their Brother during their impending visit.

"Hurry up... We must finish the preparations hastily. I want everything to be perfect." Though this couldn't be compared with the Palace's luxurious feasts, at the very least, they wanted the Emperor to be comfortable. Also, they didn't want their Big Brother to lose face because of them. That's the reason they had been busy ever since they had received the letter. This morning, they only needed to do the final checks, to make sure there would be nothing that the Emperor could possibly find unpleasant.

"Third Sister, you should rest. Don't work too hard. You just gave birth to your daughter a month ago, let me handle this." Although the latest to marry into the family, Liu Cuo was the second-in-command, thus, Li Hua's status was higher than Cao Xin's wife, albeit Hong Er was the first to enter the family.
