  HHYL Fanfic2 Chapter 7

The heavenly Imperial couple came back to their tent right after the truce negotiation had been settled. Jing's expression was one belonging to the ruler of the underworld, frightening even the poor soldiers to the point that they had the impulse to leave if not for the fact that they were more frightened by the consequences of leaving their post.

Lu Cang, under Jing's cold and severe eyes, prudently chose to sit silently. Too afraid to speak. Afraid that he might choose the wrong topic to talk about thus agitating Jing even more. Patiently, he waited until Jing could calm down a bit.

Yet, the heavy atmosphere refused to be dispelled. The deafening quietness inside the tent was uncomfortable. It wasn't the kind of silence that was accompanied by serene tranquility. Instead it was a kind of awkward and suffocating stillness. As if one was being drowned in the depths of a lake in the dead of winter. Cold. Dark. Dreadful.

Ah, enough already!

Finally, Lu Cang couldn't stand anymore of this kind of weighing-the-mind situation --- after trying so hard to stay still under Jing's occasional stern gaze, Lu Cang stood up and walked over to him. He needed to quickly lighten Jing's unpleasant mood as Jing's feelings affected him greatly. Sitting next to Jing who was seemingly busying himself with whatever-book in his hand --- clearly his mind was not on that book.

"Jing..." Jing eyed him from the corner of his eyes instead of answering. His perfect rosy lips were tightly stretched to form a straight line. His eyes were chillingly cold. However, despite all of the negative vibes he emitted, they did not detract even the slightest bit from the otherworldly quality of his beauty. On the contrary, the coldness and the rigidness added more to his imposing aura. --- His majestic manner and his breathtaking contour, especially when he was in this kind of irked state, was particularly frightening, yet it would take more than sheer will power to revoke Lu Cang's eyes from his perfectly carved face.

Whenever he made this kind of expression, Jing, who was naturally intimidating, would cause Lu Cang to feel uneasy and at a loss. Stretching his hand, he slowly reached out to touch the deity before his eyes.

"Jing... Are you still angry?" Lu Cang knew that his question was a foolish one. But he couldn't help but to ask. His extended right hand rested awkwardly on Jing's shoulder. His expression was full of uncertainty. He knew Jing was angry, but why? Why should Jing be angry to this extent?

"I am sorry if what I said before upset you..." A soft sigh from Jing stopped Lu Cang's attempt to soften his temper. Jing was not one who could be easily coaxed once his temper got the better of him. There were too many occasions that could be used as examples. Undoubtedly, each and every one of those memories were horrible beyond words. Just the thought of them sent cold shivers down Lu Cang's spine. Besides, Lu Cang was not as good as Jing in terms of coaxing. He could only helplessly stare at that still distorted nonetheless beautiful face of Jing.

Jing's taut face was still a layer of ice. He was still annoyed by that royal insect named Huan Shu Cheng. How dare that brat challenge him.

In all honesty, Jing was not upset at Lu Cang anymore. His anger was all directed towards that impudent Crown Prince. He knew that Huan Shu Cheng purposely revealed his nobility to impress Lu Cang. ---He gritted his teeth when he realized that Lu Cang indeed had been impressed by him. Surely Jing could never blame his naïve lover for being fascinated. Back at the Datong Palace, Lu Cang was routinely surrounded by scornful highly ranked courtiers, to the point that he had the mindset that all nobles and high ranked officials alike were arrogant and cold. Naturally he would find the warm and friendly, ---hateful, in Jing's opinion --- Crown Prince as an agreeable figure.
