  HHHYL Fanfic2 Chapter 9

Terrified by the horrifying scene before his eyes, Lu Cang had flown towards Jing's direction while shouting at Mu Yue.

"General Mu, capture that Imperial Guard!"

With an elegant leap, as swift as an eagle, he found himself holding Jing's body before it had a chance to touch the ground.

Without any regard for his surroundings, he only cared to check and ascertain his Jing's condition. There was no way Jing would be defeated. Jing had told him so himself. Jing had definitely clearly said that a mere arrow would never be able to take him down. This must be another prank, a not-so-funny prank, played by this mischievous Jing.

"Jing!!! Don't joke with me!! This is not funny!! Jing!!" Lu Cang shook the limp body in his arms. Calling out his name in desperation. But very quickly, he calmed himself and stopped carelessly moving Jing's body when he saw the ghastly bodies of the surrounding soldiers who were hit by the poisonous arrows.

Unlike the surrounding soldiers that turned black after being hit by those arrows, Jing's body and face remained the same color as a piece of perfect suet jade. However, to Lu Cang's expert eye --- no one was more familiar with the minute details of Jing's appearance --- he looked much too pale. Although Jing's complexion was naturally extremely fair, it always faintly tinged with a rosy glow. However that characteristic was wholly missing at the moment. It was as if his blood had refused to run properly along its course and stopped before it reached his face. Making the normally healthy-looking cheeks turn as white as a sheet of paper.

Lu Cang couldn't make heads or tails of Jing's seemingly perplexing condition. Since Jing's body was not in the same state as the other poisoned ones, Jing must have done something to stop the poison from spreading. But Jing wasn't breathing and Lu Cang couldn't feel his heartbeat at all.

Seeing that Lu Cang had put down his sword and was holding Jing with a confused face, Ding Peng, also with a very fast movement, came back to their side and guarded them from any approaching vicious attacks. To see this untouchable Emperor gracefully fall and become in this state, Deng Peng also felt anxious and wanted to know about Jing's condition. Being Jing's bodyguard had indeed been a very easy job despite its heavy responsibilities. Jing himself was highly skilled in martial arts, to the point of surpassing Ding Peng and Mu Yue. The only flaw was... Jing had a tendency to act on his own whim.

"Lord Lu...how is His Majesty?" From the corner of his eyes, he saw that Mu Yue had chased after the Imperial Bodyguard in a rage --- killing the soldiers who tried to block him with a single move.

Lu Cang shook his head. "I don't know." He lifted his head and looked at Ding Peng with an a certain measure of unusual calmness that made even Ding Peng's heart jump wildly out of anxiety.

"How so??" Ding Peng quickly bent down to check for himself since Lu Cang obviously was not experienced enough to make any judgment in this situation.

"No!! Don't touch him!!" Unexpectedly, Lu Cang held Jing firmly in his arms, shielding him with his protective gesture, not allowing Ding Peng touch him.

"Lord Lu...let me see His Majesty's condition..." Despite his own impatience to know the Emperor's condition right away, Ding Peng still managed to speak to Lu Cang with a soft and patient tone.

"How is His Majesty?" Dragging an injured man behind him, Mu Yue also came back to their side. Defeating this Imperial Guard when he was without his secret weapon had been an easy task for Mu Yue. Even though he trained in martial arts, Yi Xiang was one who was keen on getting whatever he wanted by using unconventional methods. Thus, facing the enraged Mu Yue, who was highly skilled in martial arts, he didn't even have the chance to use any of his underhanded methods that he was so proud of. Mu Yue deliberately didn't kill him right here and now, instead he reduced him to this sorry state.
