Mortal Instruments: One-Shots and Shorts

Distraction

Tumblr prompt: Distraction- Each getting completely and utterly distracted by the other.

I decided to make this pretty early in their relationship, when no one else knew about it.

Alec whirled around on the training mat, his seraph blade singing through the air. His black shirt clung to him, his brow damp with exertion. Back and forth, he repeated the same move, ducking and weaving in between the training posts to land blow upon blow on the defenseless dummies.

He was so focused, he almost missed the slight opening and closing of the door but he definitely didn't miss the voice. The voice that had been constantly on his mind as of late.

Magnus Bane walked into the training area, originally seeking Hodge to discuss payment for a recent "favor" he did for the clave. The even, rhythmic thumping of someone training on the mats was the only sound in the room. Magnus saw Hodge on the opposite end of the large space and set off toward him.

"Hodge," Magnus called out. "I do believe you still owe me something." After he spoke, Magnus vaguely recognized a shift in the otherwise steady beating of fist against rubber and turned his gaze curiously to the side. A sweaty Alec Lightwood was standing there, still holding his aggressive stance, but staring at him. When they made eye contact, Alec quickly looked back to his dummies and threw himself back into another fighting pattern, his blows harder and quicker.

"Ah yes Magnus, I do believe I have it right here-" Hodge continued as he rummaged through the desk but Magnus didn't hear, as he was distracted by Alec. The agility and power in which Alec fought with quite frankly took Magnus' breath away and the warlock swallowed hard once before turning back to Hodge.

Hodge continued mumbling as he wrenched open another drawer in seek of the payment and Magnus couldn't help but let his gaze slide back over the Alec. The harsh light only accentuated the contour of Alec's muscles and the sweat beaded on his forehead only helped Magnus picture another scenario in which Alec may be hot, sweaty, and breathing hard-

At the same time, Alec was all too aware of the warlock's intense gaze and it only served to fuel his energy. By now, he consciously realized that he was showing off but couldn't find it in himself to care.

He hit the poor dummy harder and harder until the rubber cracked and the sand spilled out. With a single smooth roundhouse kick, Alec knocked the dummy back 10 feet with a bang. With a satisfied sigh, Alec slowly released his tense fighting stance and absentmindedly ran a hand through his hair.

"Bravo." Magnus purred from across the room, cocking an eyebrow suggestively at Alec.

'Two can play at that game Magnus Bane.' Alec thought and smirked to himself. "Yeah not too shabby." He said aloud.

Then, while maintaining eye contact, he reached up and slo-o-wly pulled his shirt off, balling it in his hands. For a second, Alec thought Magnus might say something, but the warlock's gaze just leisurely trailed up and down Alec's chest, drinking in the lovely sight. 

"Ah here it is-," Hodge interrupted the silent standoff. "Alec, how many of those are you going to break today?" He asked in mock irritation while his actual pride for his student shown in his eyes. "Oh Magnus, have you met Alexander Lightwood?" Hodge asked, painfully out of the loop.

"Actually, I don't think I have." Magnus responded innocently, but his predator cat eyes glinted mischievously at Alec. Alec's jaw tightened but he forced a smile and politely extended his hand to shake.

"Nice to meet you." Alec lied between his teeth, ignoring that fact that his eyes, his hands, his lips already knew this man, had already felt him.

"Likewise." Magnus responded earnestly, all while Hodge looked on in ignorant satisfaction.

"Oh damn, this isn't actually the right document. It must be in the office, let me run and get it for you." Hodge said before walking away. "I'm sure Alec could entertain you for a few minutes." He added before the door shut behind him.

"Oh I'm sure he could." Magnus grinned wickedly, turning to Alec.

He couldn't take anymore teasing, and without any hesitation, Magnus pressed his lips hard against Alec's. Alec's hands came up to run through Magnus's spiky hair as Magnus's hands found their way to Alec's bare chest. Alec could practically feel his heart stutter when Magnus's insistent tongue combined with his roaming hands delved into more off limit areas.

A mixture of tongue and teeth and breath became the only things that mattered to the two men as they feverishly kissed each other, all while they could be caught by anyone walking into the training room.

Magnus's breath hitched as Alec scraped his nails down his back, finding his belt loops and used them to pull the warlock closer.

But Alec's lips left the kiss, before Magnus felt them return to the skin just below his jaw. The warm, wet pressure trailed down Magnus's neck to his collarbone and Magnus's head unconsciously rolled back to expose more of his neck to Alec's urgent attention.

But before they could get any further, the door knob rattled as someone began to open the door. The two men broke apart, both flushed and breathing heavily. Hodge re-entered, brandishing Magnus's payment victoriously.

"Found it." Hodge declared, extending it to Magnus. "So you are all good to go Mr. Bane."

"Thank you." Magnus replied to Hodge, but kept his eyes on Alec's flushed cheeks and mussed hair. "I expect I'll be needed again soon." And, with a final predatory gaze, turned away from Alec and walked out.

As he watched the warlock's retreating back, Alec's blood was still roaring in his ears. So much so that he almost missed Hodge talking but the slap on the shoulder forced him to pat attention.

"Go take a shower." Alec dimly heard Hodge suggest and he nodded before walking away as well.

"A cold shower for me." Alec thought dejectedly.
