~Cher POV~

"My name's Cher!" I told them, attempting to hide the thumping of my heart. The four judges fixated their gazes on me. Louis's eyes widened, in slight shock.

"Is that your real name?" He asked, and I smiled lightly.

"Yeah," I spoke into the microphone, amazed at how calm I sounded.

"Did you call it because of Cher the singer?" He asked, and, I thought for a minute. I cast a glance to my mum just offstage, who was fiddling with her phone, aiming it at me. I concealed a slight smile. She still hadn't figured out the camera on her new phone.

"Uh...I think so, I think that's why my mum called me that, I'm not sure..." I finally answered, mentally making note to ask her once I was finished.

"Okay...and, um, where you from?" He asked, fiddling with the pen in his hand.

"I'm from Malvern, in Worcestershire," I replied, grinning at the loud applause I got.

"Okay," Louis laughed lightly, "and, Cher, what age are you now?"

"I'm sixteen," I stated, and his mouth opened slightly. A smirk tugged at my lips. Everyone always seemed to think I was older.

"Only sixteen?" He asked, shocked.

"Yeah," I nodded, grinning.

"Wow! You look more!" I continued to grin, "What does your family think of all this?" I glanced offstage at my family, their eyes shining bright. My mom had put the phone away, and was staring at me encouragingly.

"Uh, they're really supportive!" I replied, watching as my nana's smile grew. He nodded.

"Okay-"

"They're backstage!" I exclaimed proudly, beaming. Only blushing after realizing i had interrupted him. Louis sat back in his chair.

"And, Cher, what are you going to sing?" My heart sped up, it was almost time. My hands began to shake ever so slightly.

"I'm going to sing 'Turn My Swag On' by Souljaboy, but I'm going to do the Kerry Hilson version," I explained, my breathing becoming faster. It was a bit risky of a song choice - quite unlike any of the other auditions, I'm sure.

"Okay, off you go!" I took a deep breath, waiting to hear the familiar tune.

Once the music started playing, it was as if something happened to me. I wasn't the nervous girl who stood in front of the judges, I was the filled with confidence and style and swagger.

Music had that affect on me. Once that music began, I didn't care what anyone thought. I didn't care if I was making a fool out of myself, if I was dancing, if I was singing. Because when the music's on, I'm free.

But then the music stopped, and as it did, the overwhelming euphoria settled into overbearing fright. My muscles tightened, willing me to stand awkwardly in the center of the stage, staring at the four people who were about to determine my fate.

And then I saw their faces. Grinning, clapping, and impressed. A broad grin forced its way into my face as applause sounded in my ears. After a minute, the applause still hadn't died down, and I couldn't help but giggle.

I knew, in that moment, that my life was about to change forever.

~Louis POV~

"...oh, it's what you do to me-e-e, oh, it's what you do to me-e-e..." I sang, my voice shaking slightly, and my knees barely able to hold me up.

I couldn't believe I was doing this. I had barely been able to preform in my school musical, and even that hadn't been this many people.

Even if I did make it, I definitely wouldn't make it to the live shows. I'm inexperienced, and not as good as all of the people I had been standing in line with earlier today.

Truth is, this morning I had been fairly confident. Everyone had always told me I had such a good vocal. Then came those long hours in the sun, listening to everyone practice, and giving me time to doubt myself.

So, now I stand here, singing in front of freaking SIMON COWELL and barely able to contain the shakiness of my voice.

Before I knew it, the music had stopped, and applause rang in my ears. Pity claps, I'm sure. I let out a deep sigh, and then turned to face the judges.

I couldn't focus on anything they said, and, try as I might, I couldn't slow my heart rate down. It beat rapidly in my ears like a drum.

"Louis, I'm saying yes!" I heard, tuning my ears back into the conversation. I grinned, relief rushing through me. Someone liked my voice. Someone wanted me to continue.

"I'm saying yes!" My eyes widened slightly, and I couldn't get the smile off of my face. Two judges thought I was good.

"Thank you so much!" I managed to get out. I turned to face Simon, nervous about what he had to say.

"You've got three yes's!" He spoke, and I don't know how to explain what I felt next. I felt as if nothing could bring me down. My face was frozen in an euphoric state, and I looked at the judges.

"Thank you so much!" I said, somehow keeping my voice from that of a shout. They smiled at me as I walked off stage in a daze. I blinked back the tears that brimmed my eyes as it sunk in. I had made it!
