Kageyama found himself humming.

He didn't know what the song was exactly - something about making your imagination become a reality* - nor did he really care. All he could think about was the text he had received the afternoon before.

As Hinata had promised, he texted him whenever he got home from school, letting Kageyama know that he was fine. But yesterday there was something else.

Kageyama took out his phone, flipped it open and double checked the texts.

Alright I'm home without a scratch!

Oh Kageyama I was wondering if you would like to come over to my house tomorrow? I think it will be fun and to just hangout.

When Kageyama had replied with an affirmative he got an almost immediate reply.

Great! And I have a surprise I'm sure you're going to love!! Oh and you probably need my address. It's-

Kageyama checked the address again and then checked the small map on his phone.

Okay, I'm not too far away.
Kageyama felt a smile tug at his lips and a butterfly sensation in his stomach.
I wonder why I'm so excited? We're probably just going to talk about volleyball, nothing out of the ordinary.

Either way, he practically skipped the rest of the way, humming that song he doesn't remember ever listening to.

~*~

Kageyama checked the address on his phone for what seemed to be the thousandth time and looked up at the house in front of him. This must be his house. Huh.

Putting away his phone he approached the front door and tapped lightly on it. Silence. Then a high pitched voice called, 'I'll get it!' Then the sound of running feet, steadily getting loud.

Hinata's little sister?
When Kageyama and Hinata started dating, they had tried to get to know each other outside of school - despite him being a complete volleyball obsessive, Kageyama had tried.
What was her name again? Na...Na...Na something, wasn't it?

Suddenly the door slid open to reveal an empty space, well, until Kageyama looked down to see what looked like a tiny version of Hinata. The thought my god, she's so short, passed across his mind before he could stop it.

Her hair was as bright as the sun in Summer, just like her brother's only it was up in two ties on either sides of her head. *Summer...

'Your name is Natsu?'
Her eyes widened as she looked up at him. Then they suddenly narrowed with suspicion.

'You must be Kageyama Tobio,' she spoke in her high voice, but somehow managed to make it sound a little threatening.
'My big brother will defeat you!' She stab a finger at him.
Kageyama blinked. How is he supposed to react to this? He wasn't very good with kids...
Well I can't just let that go.

Kageyama kneeled down so he was at eye level with her. She had crossed her arms, steely determination (well, as much as a child of her age could muster) shone in her brown eyes.

Just like her brother.

A corner of Kageyama's mouth curved into a defiant smirk.
'He can try.'

'Natsu, who is at the door...oh?'
Kageyama quickly straightened and became aware of the slight heat spreading across his cheeks.
At least I didn't make her cry.

The one who asked the question was a fairly tall woman with dark hair reaching her shoulders.
Realisation flickered in her brown eyes.

'Ah!' She snapped her fingers. 'You must be Shouyou's friend, Kageyama Tobio. I'm Shouyou's mother. Natsu, could you go and get your brother?' As Natsu scurried off, Hinata's mother turned back to Kageyama.

'Please, come in.' Kageyama ducked his head in a quick bow and slip off his shoes.
'Thank you for inviting me, Mrs. Hinata.'

'Oh it's no trouble, really. Besides, it was Shouyou's idea. Speaking of which, he's is outback practising; boys never seem to run out of energy these days. Wow you're actually pretty tall! Anyway I've heard so much about you from Shouyou, he thinks pretty highly of you.'

Kageyama felt a warm, happy sensation at that. 'He does?'

'Oh, yes, he talks about how strong your serves are and how amazing your setting is. Setting is when you get the ball into the air for the spikers to hit it right? Anyway, apparently you have a bit of a temp-'
'Mum!'

Kageyama's heart did that weird leaping thing again. It only happened around Hinata, or when he was playing volleyball, as far as he knew.

And here he was in casual wear, small beads of sweat on his skin, his shirt clinging to his slight frame. Face slightly flush from running around, still a little out of breath.
Kageyama mentally slapped himself. C'mon Tobio, don't stare.

'Isn't it about time to go?' Hinata asked.

'Is it?' She started patting her pockets. Hinata rolled his eyes.

'It's half past four,' he answered.

'Oh dear! Natsu, we have to go.'

What? Hinata's mother must have seen the confusion on his face.
'Oh, Tobio, didn't Shouyou tell you? Natsu and I are leaving to stay at my sister's for the night. You and Shouyou will be fine by yourselves, right?'

'Oh, yeah. Totally fine.'

Alone with Hinata? For a whole night?
Deep breaths, Tobio.

He stood back as Hinata said his goodbyes.
His mother's cheerful chattieness seemed to have melted away to reveal a concerned mother, her hands on her son's shoulders, speaking in a voice so soft Kageyama couldn't make out what she was saying.

Natsu hugged her brother like it was the last time she was going to see him. t must be nice to have a sibling.

Then they finally left, the door sliding shut behind them. Silence.
