************************There were more than a couple of reasons why Kageyama loved volleyball.
Kageyama loved the feel of the ball on his fingertips, loved feeling the weight of it, then tossing it into the air for the awaiting spikers. He loved the sound of the ball being successfully smashed to the ground on the other side of the court.
And there was something else, a person to be exact. The way that certain person seemed to fly, despite their terrible form, sometimes took his breath away. The way that certain person's eyes sparkled, and that smile that could light up the whole of Tokyo.
Even that certain person's appearance...the shape of their soft lips...their fiery mane of hair...that person was-
(dead)
'Hey, Kageyama!'
Kageyama blinked. Then flinched back, his head knocking, not too lightly, against the wall. He clamped his hands over the back of his head.
'Ow! Hinata, you dumbass! Don't get into...peoples...faces...' Kageyama stopped and frowned.
Am I forgetting something?
He could of sworn...It felt like he was suffering from a major case of déjà vu. Then he took a quick intake of breath as he remembered. Everything. But Hinata was right here, alive. That must mean...
His felt almost faint with relief. It had been a nightmare, only a dream. Hinata is alive.
'Ka-kageyama?' Hinata's voice wavered. 'Are you okay? Break's over, it's time to go back on.'
Kageyama swallowed the tight feeling in his throat and finally looked up at Hinata. 'Yeah, I'm okay.'
Hinata hummed thoughtfully, apparently calm again, and stood up. He offered a hand. Kageyama didn't reach it right away. He had a bizarre thought that if he did, Hinata would crumble away to nothing. Kageyama shooed that thought away and grabbed onto his solid hand. That would be absurd. This is real life, after all.
'Are you sure you're okay, Kageyama?' Hinata asked again as he heaved him up, grunting slightly.
Kageyama shook his head. 'I just had a nightmare, is all. Don't worry about it.'
'Kageyama! Hinata!' Daichi's stern voice rang throughout the gym. 'If you don't hurry up I'll make you do 100 laps around the gym, each.'
Hinata and Kageyama gulped.
'Right! Sorry!'
Despite being snapped at, Kageyama felt almost overwhelmingly happy. Hinata is alive and safe.
