~Prologue~

I woke up with an instant smile on my face; I decided to take my time getting out of bed, just this once. I slowly stretched and then relaxed back into the comfort of my bed, along with the hundreds of pillows that surrounded me. Well maybe not hundreds, but you get the point. I basked in the warm sunlight that the open windows let in along with a soft warm summer breeze. My smile softened and I left my cosy bed making my way to the window and out to the adjoining balcony.

I was met by the rather harsh glare of the sun, but strangely enough I wasn’t faltered by it. Who needs sunglasses anyway? Leaning against the rail of the balcony I let my eyes take their time taking everything in. Even though it wasn’t that hot the crystal blue ocean already looked so inviting. My gaze then went down and landed on a small group of teenagers, they were all laughing with massive smiles on their faces. I remember the first time I met them; it was soon after the incident and since then they have basically become my family.

I’ve always believed that the past was the past and that’s where it will always stay. Even when I was little I lived by that saying and that hasn’t changed. I’m ready for the future, whatever it may bring and ready to finally enjoy life again and all its untimely pleasures. I once again directed my eyes to the beautiful, clear ocean, simply allowing myself to get lost in the rolling waves that surged towards the coastline.

“Scarlet!” I looked down and saw that everyone was looking up at me. I gave them a wave, and then pointed to the water. They responded by shaking their heads but I could tell that they were smiling regardless of what their actions portrayed. I had just entered my room when I heard one of them yell at me to hurry up. I shook my head and grabbed my favourite bikini and headed for the door. What’s about to happen is nothing compared to what’s going to happen tonight, that’s when I’m going to put a new definition to party.

I ran down the stairs and was filled with utter bliss when my bare feet hit the soft sand of the beach. I can see that everyone was already in the water. So much for waiting! I dumped my towel by where the others put their stuff and ran not towards them but towards the small build-up of rocks close by. I effortlessly climbed and I looked down, I was cheered on by wolf whistles and happy shouts. I gave them all a cheeky smirk and plunged into the refreshing cool of the clear, crystal blue sea.
