12. Icing

Harry drove us to Monica's house and we didn't talk the whole ride there. All I could think about was Evan. The fact that Harry had his own child out there somewhere was crazy. He may have been born against Harry's will, but still. I'd thought that the whole kidnapped and forced to sell drugs thing would have been the emotional trauma. But from the way Harry reacted, it seemed like Evan was the real trauma. Harry followed me up the steps to Monica's house and I turned to him before I rang the doorbell.

"This is why I don't want to know what else happened. I know you're not gonna want me to feel bad for you, and I get that. But now, all I can think about is Evan so... Don't tell me unless I ask, alright?" I stated.

He nodded and gave me a small half smile. I rang the doorbell and we stood there waiting for the door to be answered. A girl about Simone's height with long blonde hair and big brown eyes stood in the door wearing a princess costume.

"Hi, Riley!" She smiled.

"Hey, Jenny, you look very royal today," I smiled down at her.

"Thank you," she gave me an unbalanced curtsy, "Come in, me and Simone made cupcakes!" She stepped out of the way and Harry and I walked in.

"Are you Harry?" She pointed up at him.

"Yes ma'am. And you're the famous Jenny I've heard so much about," he stuck his hand out and smiled at her.

She grabbed his hand and giggled, "You're really cute."

I rolled my eyes and Harry just thanked her. She skipped back to the kitchen and the hectic scene unfolded in front of us. There were bowls and spoons everywhere, sprinkles all over the floor, and icing smeared on things it shouldn't be.

"Simone Annabeth Bold, did you make this mess?" I said loudly.

Simone and Monica looked up at me from the island. Monica smiled and Simone pouted and put her hands on her hips. "No!" She exclaimed.

I squinted at her and mirrored her pose, "Are you sure?"

 "Only a little," Simone murmured.

"Simone I had no idea you could cook," Harry said.

"Just like you!"

He made his way to the other side of the island and stood behind her, admiring her work. I could see the way her eyes lit up when Harry came near her. She got so happy and he listened to her so carefully, hanging on to every word she said.

"Let's go get her stuff," Monica stood up and came over to me.

I followed her upstairs and to Jenny's bright yellow room. Stickers and decorations everywhere. I always felt bad that I couldn't paint Simone's room. I couldn't do anything to it. I hadn't planned on living in that apartment forever, so once I had a real income, we'd move into the house she deserved.

"So did she cause any trouble?" I asked standing at the door.

"C'mon Riley, Simone never causes trouble. If anything she yells at other girls," Monica smiled up at me. That sounds like a Simone thing to do. Actually that sounded like something both Natalie and I would do.

"So tell me about Harry. Simone seems to really like him. I can't believe you haven't told me about him!" Monica handed me Simone's bag and I sighed.

"I haven't told you about him because he hasn't been around. He just kind of reappeared. It's a long story and I don't even know all of it," I said.

She looked at me suspiciously and just shrugged. "Well... He's hot, very hot," she grinned.

I rolled my eyes and laughed.
