14. Moon

The moonlight beamed down through the open window. I stared down at myself, my feet bare, the white lace dress that my mom had made me flowed down to my ankles. I wore that dress every chance that I could get. It took me back to the best year of my life. I was graduating high school, my parents and I were getting along, Nat was home for the summer, and there was Harry. Harry took me to Hollywood.

We stayed in this big fancy casino that must've cost him more money than he actually had, but he did it for me anyway. For us. I looked around the old rusted walls that enclosed me in a large warehouse type space. I made my way over to the window and looked outside.

The ground was far below me, the moon right at my fingertips. Footsteps echoed behind me and I turned to meet them. Harry stood there looking perfect as always, just smiling at me. I smiled back and turned my head to look back out the window.

"I've never seen the sky look like this. Not in Seattle anyway, it's usually cloudy," I muttered.

He came up next to me and gazed out the window.

"Perfect timing then, huh?" He grinned.

I looked over at his side profile and smiled.

"C'mon sweetheart, dance with me," His large hand grabbed mine and he started to pull me over to the middle of the floor.

He reached into his pocket with his other hand and pulled out his phone. He pressed a few buttons and music started to play in the background. He quickly stuffed it back into his pocket then slid his other hand around my waist and to my back. He slowly pulled me in until our chests were touching. He was a whole head taller than me, so he rested his cheek on my forehead. He pulled my hand out to the side and we started to sway.

"Sam Smith is a little depressing don't you think?" I muttered listening to the music.

"I know you love him though, just listen and think that this is how your life would be without me, so you need to keep me around for awhile," He said.

I laughed a little and could feel his smile against my skin. We danced for a while after that. We didn't talk, didn't look at each other, nothing. He held me as close as he possibly could and I hung on for dear life.

"What was this for?" I asked out of nowhere.

He started drawing circles on my lower back with his fingers, humming along to the song playing.

"No reason," he said simply.

I pulled my head to look back at him for the first time in what felt like hours. His eyes slowly met mine after he pulled them away from the full moon.

"I wish I could take you to the moon, Riley. That'd be something wouldn't it?" he smiled.

I just looked up at him and he looked back out the window again. I let go of his shoulder for a second before I brushed some of his hair back.

"You can be my moon," I mumbled.

His smile grew and he leaned forward to kiss my forehead. He stayed there for a second, his lips just grazing my skin. It was amazing just feeling him so close to me. I always felt so safe with him, like nothing bad could ever happen to me.

"I want you to know something," he whispered.

"Hmm?" I hummed in response.

I zoned out after he got so close.

"I'm sorry," he said.

Sorry?

"What for?" I kept my eyes closed and focused on his heartbeat.

His rich coffee smell wafted up my nose and woke me up a little.

"Leaving you." I opened my eyes and tuned back into reality.

What the hell was he talking about? He hadn't left me, he was standing right in front of me.

"What do you mean?" I questioned him.

He let out a deep breath and pulled our joined hands up to his face.

"It's hard to explain but... I'm sorry okay? Know that I'd never want to leave you," his voice calmly said before he quickly kissed my hand. I'm confused.

"Well then why are you going to?" I wondered if he could hear the frustration in my voice.

His eyes met mine again before his hands left my hips and connected to both of my cheeks. The deep breath he had just let out fell over my face was strong and warm. The hairs on the back of my neck stood up and my fast paced heartbeats reverted back to its steady pace.

"I don't really have a choice, love."

My confusion still hadn't gone away, my face was starting to tighten, which meant I was getting irritated. I could feel the frown growing on my face. The yell that was growing inside me stopped right before it reached my mouth because Harry covered it. With his own. I hadn't even noticed him ignite the kiss, but next thing I knew, he had did it.

His lips moved slowly over mine and it took me a second to catch up with him. But once I did, and he realized it, he pulled me closer. I wrapped my arms around his torso and clutched on to his shirt in order to keep my balance. His skin felt like silk as it glided against mine. He made me so weak in the knees it was crazy. I didn't want him to stop. Every time his lips connected with mine this spark of I don't even know what exploded inside of me.

In this moment, this was all I had ever wanted in life. His tongue grazed over my bottom lip before he pulled back. He didn't move too far away, so every time he said something, his lips brushed against mine.

"Riley," he said with a deep breath. I could barely breathe either.

"Harry," I replied.

He brushed my hair back and looked deep down into my soul through my eyes.

"I love you. I'll always love you," he mumbled.
