Chapter Twelve: KAZUHA and RAN

“Mou~! Why do we have to forget a flashlight at a time like this?!” Kazuha huffed as she pushed herself to run faster. They took quite a while to look for an ice pack.

“We have to hurry, Kazuha-chan. There’s no time to waste!” Ran encouraged her friend.

“Wait~! Ran-chan! It’s hard to run on sa--! Kyaa~!” Kazuha screamed as she stumbled into the white sand.

“Kazuha-chan! Are you alright?”

“Y—Yeah. It’s just this person here…” She said while dusting herself with sand.

“Are? Is that you, Kate-san? I—It’s us. Uhm… Kazuha and Ran. From this morning?” Ran struggled as she finished her sentence in English.

“Are you ok? I’m so sorry!” Kazuha managed.

“Ne… Kazuha-chan. Isn’t it weird that Kate-san is here all alone?” Ran began to wonder.

“Is she drunk?”

“Maybe. Should we call Heiji? Or should we wake her up first?”

“Let’s try waking her up first.”

“N—Ne… Kate-san. Wake up. Kate-san!”

“Wake up please! Kate-san!”

They began to shake her awake but it was unsuccessful. They were in the brink of calling Heiji for help when Kate let out a groan and then fell lifelessly into the sand.

“K—Kate-san…?” The two chorused.

Blood began to stain the white sand beneath them. The two young girls, shaking let out a blood curling scream.

“IYYYAAA~!!!”

“Yabe~!”

“Who’s that?”

“Hey! Heiji! Conan! Where are you going?!”

“Hurry!” The two chorused, with their frantic faces, dashed towards the direction of the screams.

“What happened here?!” They all gasped, all panting from running into the sand. There, lay lifeless and dead, on the sand, is Kate. And Kazuha and Ran, all pale and shaking.

“Kate! What happened?! KATE~!”

“Do not touch her body! Nobody move!” Conan and Heiji shouted before Kate’s friends rushed towards her lifeless body.

“Kazuha, call the police!”

“Somebody! Please! Call an ambulance, hurry!”

Ran and Kazuha cannot get up as they slump into the sand. Their eyes focused into Kate’s dead and depthless eyes. Crying their eyes out as well.

“I’m gonna call the police!”

“I’m calling the ambulance!”

“There’s no need.” Conan said. “She’s already dead.”

“What?!” Everybody gasped.

“NO~!” Ran and Kazuha screamed before losing consciousness.

“W—What… Happened?” Ran asked.

“Hey… How are you feeling?” Noemi asked her while giving Kazuha hot choco.

“I’m feeling fine. Thanks. How are you doing, Kazuha-chan?”

“I’m fine.” She smiled weakly and hugged her knees.

“Where’s Conan-kun and Heiji-kun?” Ran suddenly asked feeling the tense from her friend.

“They were outside, feeling some fresh air by the shore.” Noemi said and tucked them in. “Have some sleep, and I promise, when you wake up, they will be right here.”

“Thank you, Noemi-san. Are you feeling ok now?”

“Uhm. Thanks. I’ll be in my room. Call me whenever you need anything.”

“Yes.” They chorused weakly and dozed off silently.
