————My eyes lazily opened to a dark room, the moonlight streaming in through the open windows. I was alone, the opposite side of the bed wrinkled as if someone has laid down on the covers rather than beneath them beside me. The stale stench of wolf hung in the air like a dreaded reminder of the situation I was in.
I tried to sit up, my back slightly aching in protest, but it was much more bearable than before. Their pack house was eerily quiet, and the whole idea of living with these - these wolves made my skin crawl in disgust.
I have to get out of here unnoticed. The alpha is crazy if he thinks I'm not going to reject him. I've worked so hard to eliminate this pack from the face of the earth for how they treat us, what they've done to us, everything. They all deserve to be eradicated, now.
I pulled the covers off, my legs erupting in chills as I was still wearing that man's boxers and shirt, but I didn't have much choice in the matter. I placed my feet flat on the hardwood floor, its cold temperature adding to the chills that covered my body. I stood, my body aching because of lying in bed for so long, but I quickly began walking towards the door. I needed to get out of here as quickly as possible, and I wasn't going to stop for anyone or anything until I was home.
The door swung open without a sound, and I began to quietly make my way down the hall that Axel had led me down yesterday. Before I reached the stairs, I peaked my head out, looking and listening for anyone, but it was as if this entire place was dead. No patrols, no one on the look-out, nothing. How in the hell is this pack run? Not a single living soul awake at this hour to even keep an eye out for hunters, invading packs, anything? The alpha knows I'm a hunter, why in the hell did he just leave me alone, unguarded?
I practically flew down the steps, my feet hardly making a sound as I made a break through the door. It again opened without a sound, and I made my way out onto a porch. I crouched low, expecting wolves to be wandering around, but again nothing. I stood and walked down the few porch steps, my senses on high alert as I made a break for the forest. I had no idea what direction I was going in, but I didn't care. I had to make it out of this place.
It was maybe a hundred yards to the tree-line, and my legs were pumping faster than they ever had before. The oversized shirt was flying up, whipping around as I pumped my arms back and forth, the desperation fueling my adrenaline. I broke through the first few trees, absolute glee flooding my body, the branches whipping past my face and my features cracked into a smile. I was free!
I continued to run, and when my breathing became too ragged, I allowed myself to slow and risk a glance back. The trees were swaying slightly from my movements through them, but other than that, there was nothing. I let out a sigh of relief and turned back around. Just as I was about to begin my trek again, an arm flashed out, a hand cupping over my mouth to muffle my scream as the other arm snaked itself over my abdomen. Panic flooded my system and I began kicking and screaming, trying to flail every body part I had to get out of my attacker's hold. Their hand was tight over my mouth, but I was able to clamp my teeth down onto one of their fingers and bite hard enough to draw blood.
I heard the man behind me curse, and he yanked his hand away from my mouth. The second he released my lips, a throaty scream came from me, and I continued to flail around.
"Will you please stop fucking screaming? You'll wake everyone!" The man stunk of wolf, but his voice sounded desperate as he pleased for me to stop. Tough shit, I will never trust a wolf.
The man spun me around in his grasp so I was facing him, and he replaced the hand over my mouth again as I continued to struggle. I stopped as his hold became tighter, his grip and my movements aggravating my back until pain was shooting up my spine.
