Another thing about Indians is they will always assume that the other person will surely drink tea.

My mother just adds onto the never ending list of those Indians. She had asked me to clean the 4 tea cups for the 4 time. Apparently every time I cleaned them, there was a spot that I missed.

"Ma, will you calm down!! Its our new neighbours coming home for tea not Queen Elizabeth!!" I was starting to get pissed at her now.

"AVI you don't understand. Everything needs to be perfect." She said busy changing the table settings for the third time.

"Ma, don't worry. Everything is going to be perfect I promise." I held the shoulders and rubbed them a little. "Its okay. Just be yourself and and I am sure you both will turn out to be really good friend"

Mum wanted her and Rashmi to be good friends. She has been really busy for the last 5-6 years. With her degrees, my elder brother's studies, my father's trips and me. Now that my father was done with business trips, my brother was in Ahmadabad completing his second semester in engineering and me here, she desperately wanted some friends. She wanted a life that did not revolve around me, my brother or my father.

The door bell rang and she took a deep breath in.

"That should be them. Now be on your best behaviour..ok?" My mother said while walking up to the door and unbolting it. I rolled my eyes at her.

Thankfully she didn't see me.

Rashmi stood there with a Aryan. She wore a red kurta and black leggings. He jet black hair were hanging lose and her eyes were a little puffy, probably because of the shifting and settling in the new house. Behind her stood Aryan, wearing a black button up shirt and a ripped blue denims. His hair were like when I first saw him, side parted and neat. He had a jar in this hand that had cookies in it. The rim of the jar was tied up with a pink glittery ribbon.

"Oh do come in." My mum stepped aside and let both of them enter.

"This is for you." Rashmi gestured Aryan to hand over the jar and I almost jumped to it. And this earned me an eye from my mother, a chuckle for Rashmi and a shocked yet hilarious expression from Aryan.

Oh how I love to just embarrass myself in front of people.

"I'm Sorry. I just got too excited." I apologized and stepped aside. Aryan, who was still amused handed me the jar instead of my mum. His fingers touched mine and my stomach churned.

"Please excuse her! She just gets carried away with all the little things." Said my embarrassed mother, gesturing both of our guests to sit. I, on the other hand was just to busy dreaming about having the cookies.

"So, I hope you are adjusting well here." Mum said starting the conversation.

"Yes we are. Although this is a bit different than what it used to be back in Deradun." Rashmi said with an identical smile to that of Aryan's.

"So you lived in Deradun before this?" Mum asked .

"Yeah, my husband is in the army and he was posted in delhi..so here we are." Rashmi didn't sound happy with it shifting to another town. " So Simran, you are a house wife?"

"No, I am a doctor. I was home for the past 10 days because Abani had her exams." My mum replied with a grin.

"Oh, so you are done with your exams now Abani?" Rashmi asked me.

"Yes, my exams got over yesterday. And please call me Avi. I prefer it that way." I replied politely with a smile .

"That's nice."

"So what will you have. Tea or coffee?" I asked them.

"Tea" both the ladies sang in chorus.
While Aryan said "I'll have a coffee."

"Ok" with that I stepped into the kitchen and put up a pot of fresh tea on the stove. I pulled all the ingredients for preparing coffee. 2 mugs, sugar, milk, coffee powder and a tablespoon. I had just picked up my favourite cup for the counter and Aryan appeared into the kitchen out of nowhere.

"Planning of giving me a heart attack" anyone could notice the sarcasm dripping from my words.

He chuckled. It was deep, right from his stomach. Shaking his head he put his hands up in surrender. "I'm sorry, didn't mean to scare you. Just thought you might need help."

His voice was deeper than earlier. His eyes were speaking for themselves. His lips skywards and his hair still in place, nerd-like.

"That's thoughtful" my cheeks turning a light shade of pink "but everything here is sorted."

"Well I then might as well get to know you. So Abani, tell me about yourself." He swiftly sat on the kitchen counter, keen for my reply. I did the same on the opposite one, except for the swift part.

"Ok so about myself...Well, I'm weird and crazy. I laugh at the silliest things, I absolutely love reading, peanut butter, mango flavoured icecreams and coffee is my poison..."

"And.." He put his arms on his knees and cupped his face.

" And....I am extremely irrational, delusional and a big dreamer. My jokes aren't funny...like not at all. I listen to everybody but I only do what I want so I'm very stubborn. I'm a die hard marvel fan and..." I poured the tea in cups "I very unorganized and messy" I said gesturing the counters.

He gave a knowing smile and helped me clean up the mess. I kept some biscuits and a few cookies that Aryan had brought into two separate bowls, signaling Aryan to bring them.

"So tell me about yourself then.." I placed all the four cups in the tray and started walking towards the living room.

Aryan followed. "I'm not in a hurry. Take time to figure me out." With a smirk on his face he walked past me. My jaw was hitting the floor. That...that devil hiding behind good looks.
