Everyone knows a teenage girl that is obsessed with the latest actor, singer or band. They know everything about the person and is their "number one fan." And I just happened to be that girl.
It's summer of 2013.
My best friend, Ana, texts me about the R5 concert. We have been waiting since last summer to see the band perform and we are beyond excited.
The atmosphere of a concert is something you can't explain in words. It's something magical. And tonight is said to be one of the best nights of our lives.
To: Ana
"Come over in like 20 minutes so we can start getting ready."
As I sent the text I started heading up stairs to take a shower. 15 minutes later, I got out and went to my room to get dressed.
Every single girl out there knows that finding the perfect outfit can be a struggle. You want to look good, but not like you tried too hard. You want to be noticed, but not look slutty.
I walk over to my closet to find something that I feel comfortable but confident in. I find a black crop top with silver studs along the neckline. Then I pair it with light wash, high waisted shorts. It made my waist look smaller and my ass bigger, just what I girl wants. To keep the outfit looking causal, I paired it with plain black converse.
I debated some type of heel or wedge so I could actually see at the concert, but I would rather be comfortable.
Once I was finished getting dressed, Ana arrived at my house and we both went to the bathroom to do our makeup.
Ana is a girl that everyone dreams of being. She's tall, skinny and tan and has long dark brown hair.
It's hard on me to even compare myself to her. I'm only five foot, and I'm a lot curvier than her. Often, I find myself feeling like the ugly friend next to her. But she just can't help it, she uses it to her advantage.
I tend to keep my make up light. I don't usually use a bunch of powders or foundation. I only ever put on black eyeliner and mascara.
Ana and I both straightened our hair and I teased mine up a little bit. And before we knew it, it was like to leave.
In a few short months, Ana is going to get her license and we will finally both have some freedom. But in the mean time, our moms shuffle us around.
We live in a small town, right on the border of Wisconsin. The concert tonight is in Chicago, so it was about an hour long ride.
Neither of us could sit still. We sang all the songs and made sure we knew the lyrics by heart.
Since we took such a long time to get ready, we stopped to pick up some food on our way to the city.
With the mix of French fries, chicken nuggets and previous experiences of motion sickness, I quickly began to feel like shit.
"Are you alright?" My mom asked, looking at my through the rear view mirror.
I put my elbow up on the window and held my head in my hand, "Yeah, I'm just feeling a little motion sick like usual."
"Well cheer up!" Ana said nudging me.
The jolt of Ana's nudge sent my stomach into turmoil.
Ana continued, "We're just getting into Chicago and we all know how much you love the city."
I smiled and fixed my posture. I look around at all the skyscrapers, buildings and shops. Being in the city makes me so happy. It's just so beautiful.
We arrived at the theatre around 6. Ana and I jumped out of the car and found our spots in line.
"I can't believe we are actually about to see them." Ana said to me.
"I just can't wait to actually hear then sing in person." I responded back.
"What if Ross looks at me?? I'd probably shit myself!" She whispered.
"I know, Ill cry if any of them acknowledged my existence." I told her as the doors were finally being opened.
Ana tends to view herself above other people. Never on purpose though, it's just Ana. She would really take offense to people not noticing her, especially Ross.
And it's always pissed me off that Ana only cares about Ross. I seriously have love for all the band members. I get that everyone has their favorite but still. I feel like she barely knows Riker, Rydel, Rocky or Ellington.
Everyone filed in, trying to push their way to the front. Ana and I tried really hard to get our way up there. We managed to get about 4th row and we could clearly see the stage.
Within a half hour the 5 people that I have idolized for who knows how long, walked on stage. Everyone started screaming and you could tell they were getting pumped up.
Riker yelled, "What's up Chicagooooo!"
The venue roared with screams.
Ross looked around the theatre and nodded at the other band members.
The crowd screamed again but then settled down once we saw them getting ready to start.
"You like mixed matched socks with polka dots, you like your pizza cold I think that's hot- " Rocky's beautiful voice projected out into the room.
Everyone was jumping and dancing, singing alone to the songs. We were having the time of our lives. Ana and I would fangirl any time the boys did something cute.
As the band played through the set list, they came to my favorite song.
The lights when down so you could only see silhouettes of band.
Ross started, "In the back of a taxi cab, one quick turn you were on my lap. We touched hands and we pulled them back, I want you bad!"
The lights returned making them glow.
Ross's voice has aged so perfectly and was so sexy in the song. He is known for his thrusts on stage, giving the song a sexually frustrated edge.
Then he was in the middle of the chorus, "...Cause you're the best I never had. Oh girl, I want you bad!"
At that exact moment Ross, made eye contact with me. I froze, starstruck, and then suddenly, he froze too.
From what I felt, we were both at a lost for words. It felt like we'd had been staring at each other forever. But in reality, only seconds past.
Ross then realized that he wasn't even singing and picked up at, "oh, I want you bad!" With his eyes still locked on mine.
Ana leaned over to me screaming, "OH MY GOD. DID YOU SEE HIM LOOK AT ME??"
I sighed, knowing that he probably was looking at Ana. God forbid that anyone but her got the attention. Why would I think Ross would actually stop singing over someone like me?
I yelled back, "YES OH MY GOD!!"
We hugged each other and jumped up and down, continuing to sing.
Through out the rest of the song he kept glancing over at me and I felt like he was singing for me.
And of course, the jumping and screaming got my stomach a little too excited. I started to feeling nauseous and grabbed on to Ana's arm.
I yelled to her, "I have to go to the bathroom, but I don't want to leave!"
"Just go quick!" She told me, "I don't want you getting sick right here! I'll save your spot!"
I nodded and told her I'd be right back. I turned around and started pushing my way to the doors. I ran through them and went to go look for the restroom.
