Tempted: A Demetri and Heidi Love Story

Edward's Pov

I gritted my teeth together. What was Demetri thinking? Bringing a human into the vampire world?

I sighed. I could not say that. I had brought Bella in as a human. And I ended up having to change her because she was dying... I also had no choice. The Volturi were about to step in anyway....

But that's a story you have surely already read.

I growled. If Demetri decided to think of Heidi in that way, Aro would step in as he tried to do with Bella, and would kill her. He would try to kill her. Or change her.

I growled again. Bella would not allow it. She would not allow her niece to be changed. Of course Heidi thought they were cousins. It was all a part of the charade.

Bella was actually her aunt, step aunt may I add. Bella hated having to lie to her family. But it was the only way to keep Heidi and any other family safe.

When Bella learned of Demetri's being so involved with Heidi, she knew there was going to be a inevitable problem. Heidi was supposed to be going to college, and now that was to be put on hold because of the interference.

Why hadn't Alice seen this? Wouldn't she had seen it if Heidi got involved with a member of the Volturi? Or if Heidi was in danger?

Or was Heidi not in danger?

I scolded myself. Of course she was in danger. The Volturi are sadistic, and they wouldn't care if they killed someone. To Demetri,she is probably just another useless human. In his eyes, she was just another meal.

"Bella, why did we tell her? The Volturi are on their way! They will know that she knows about us!" I said. I slammed my first on the table angrily.

Bella flinched. She seemed afraid of me. "Edward, we had to tell her. She is just as observant as I was as a human. And maybe even more observant that I was." She whispered.

"Either way, we will have to either move away or disappear before there is any trouble."

Bella stiffened at my words. She seemed to be struggling for the right words. "Edward... I will not leave her like you left me. Do you realize what will happen to her? She'll be in more danger because of Demetri."

"We have to Bella. We cannot do this to her. We are in the way. If we were somewhere else, this wouldn't have happened."

"Edward, I cannot do that to her. It will tear her apart. Noela already left her. And Alice hasn't seen her come back. She will be all alone."

"What about her parents?" I asked her.

"My mother and Phil's daughter was her mother. And she died in a car crash with her husband last year. She has one friend, I have forgotten her name, but. Alice informed me of that not lasting very long."

"What can we do, Bella? What can we do to protect your niece?" I questioned.

Demetri would figure put that she knew and would use it as an excuse to kill her. He was one of this worst sadists I had ever met, excluding Aro and Caius.

"We have to get her to stay here until it is safe again. We will have to protect her until that moment comes." Bella explained.

"It will never be safe, darling. Demetri will always come back. She will never be safe again."

"Then we have to change her into a vampire. That's the only way she will be able to defend herself against him."

I sighed. That would not help her very much. What if Demetri got angry that we changed her?

"Bella, that is not a good idea. Changing someone is not always the solution to every problem. And what about the treaty? Do. you realize what the wolves would do if we added another vampire?"

"We can tell Jacob. He's the alpha. He can explain it to the others and it will be fine. He'll understand why I want this."

"What about Demetri? What if he got angry because we changed his meal into one of us? And Aro would not be please that we'd have another member in our coven. He'd make an excuse to attack."

She seemed frustrated. Her eyebrows furrowed as she looked up at me again. Though I could not read her mind, I knew she was realizing a problem with changing Heidi.

"What should we do, Edward? I want to protect Heidi, but I need to protect Renesmee and the rest of the family. I don't want to put anyone in anymore danger."

"We have to leave, Bella. Demetri will have no reason to come back if we are gone. She'll be safe."

"Edward, you should go. Take Renesmee and the rest of the family. I will stay and protect Heidi. I will guard her, using my shield so that Demetri can't track her scent. We'll go somewhere remote so that she'll be safe."

"I don't like that idea. I don't need to apart from you right now." I whispered.

She pressed her lips on mine. "You have to leave tonight. Take Nessie and protect her. I'll be calling every now and then to tell you of our location and how everything is."

"I am going to pick up your niece. I need to hurry before Demetri decides to visit her again." I said.

I do not understand why she feels as if she needs to stay with her niece. Why couldn't we just leave?

"I love you, Edward." She said quietly. She seemed saddened that I had to leave for Heidi's safety.

"As I love you, darling." I replied, kissing her forehead. I had an instant flash back of when I kissed her forehead as I left her in the woods many years ago. I shivered as I remembered when I thought she died.

I pushed the thought out of my mind. That was in the past. I need to worry about the present and how it can affect the future. I cannot change the past.

I flitted out of our large bedroom in the cottage, stopping at Nessie's room to kiss her cheek. She was sound asleep, and turned over in her bed as my cold skin made contact with her flustered cheek.

She was all grown up now, and was engaged to Jacob Black, of whom I had seen as an enemy when he was in love with Bella. But everything had changed.

Though I did not enjoy the fact that he would be with my daughter, I knew she would be safe with him. I would have to thank him for that.

I stroked her cheek with my index finger, smiling as I saw her beautiful dream. She was dreaming of Bella, Jacob, herself and I standing in the meadow, smiling and laughing together.

I stood back up, flitting out the door and into my car. I still had the Volvo, the silver one I have had since the time of Bella's human life.

I shoved the key into the ignition and sighed. It was time to protect my niece.
