Flares

Part 1

In a land far from our own and in a different time lived the wolves. These creatures could change from wolf to humans whenever they wanted. Most of them decided long ago to go into cities and live in comfortable non pack lives, but there were still a few packs left in the wild. Very few packs were able to hold one area of land for long, those who did keep their land were known for their cruelty and didn't take well to trespassers. The majority of packs were nomadic and kept a small number of wolves, in fact our story starts with a nomadic pack as they find themselves in a tough situation.

"Kai we can't stay here!" Chen yelled at the alpha.

"And why not?" Kai pouted. "It's not like we'll be here forever."

"Well let's see, we have four omegas, myself and you our alpha." Said Chen, Kai stood there still looking confused. "I can tell you for certain that they have at least two betas!"

"Oh." Kai said softly. He looked outside of their temporary cave and saw three of his omegas huddled around the fourth as he shivered and coughed.

"Yeah oh!" Chen screamed. The four turned to look at the cave, muttering to themselves. "I don't know about you but I don't want MY mate to be taken away for YOUR stubbornness."

"That won't happen!" Kai yelled back, Chen flinched but held his ground. "Look we'll stay here tonight and leave first thing in the morning, I just don't want to move Tao right now."

"I know you don't." Chen said softly. "But not much is known about the alpha here and that worries me."

"Trust my judgement." The two looked at the omegas. "Nothing will happen tonight, I'll protect my pack."

"I'll trust you tonight but either you or myself will be on constant watch." Kai laughed softly at his beta.

"Sometimes you act like the alpha." Kai agreed none the less and they walked out to sit by the others.

"Well I was in charge here for five years." Chen laughed sitting beside his mate. Xiumin leaned into Chen's embrace smiling at his lover.

The pack started as just Chen and Xiumin, they ran away from their old pack once they became mates. Over the course of three years they gained Tao (who the couple treated as their own cub and in return Tao treated the couple like annoying parents) a week after finding Tao they found Baekhyun, who told amazing stories of his old life in the city. Two years later Kai and Sehun were found, the alpha and omega has been abandoned together as children. Once Kai came into the pack Chen gladly stepped down from his leadership role and sat comfortably in his natural beta rank. The six had been together happy and two years later here they sat. In some other pack's territory with their best omega fighter injured...and it was snowing.

"We stay here tonight but leave as soon as the sun rises." Kai said staring into the flames.

"I'm sorry." Xiumin spoke up. "If I hadn't tried to go after that rabbit Tao wouldn't have chased me and gotten caught in that bear trap."

"It's not your fault mama." Tao smiled. "I said I was hungry and I should have watched where I was going."

"How do you miss a bear trap that poorly hidden?" Baekhyun asked.

"I wasn't paying attention." Tao shrugged.

"You are always yelling at me to pay attention!" Sehun said, who was getting a lecture from Tao about paying attention only seconds before running after Xiumin.

"At least I haven't walked into a tree before." Tao smirked. Chen smiled at the two omegas, he and Xiumin often considered the other four to be their children. Sehun joked that it was practice before they had their own pups.
